Sky Eats Airplane was an American post-hardcore / metalcore band from Fort Worth , Texas .

history

Sky Eats Airplane was formed by singer Brack Cantrell and guitarist Lee Duck after they left their previous band, Our First Fall . At the time the band was formed, they were attending Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth , Texas . The two single- handedly recorded the debut album Everything Perfect on the Wrong Day and released it on August 6, 2006 in their own production.

After other colleagues were found in the bassist Johno Erickson, the drummer Kenny Schick and the guitarist Zack Ordway, Duck switched to lead guitar; he had acted as a drummer at the beginning of the band's career. In late 2006, Cantrell left the band to focus on his professional career and graduate from school. Through a casting that the group started on Myspace , the musicians found a new lead singer in Jerry Roush . Shortly thereafter, a distribution deal was made with Thriving Records , who re-released the debut album in November 2007. The band was then signed by Equal Vision Records .

In early 2008, the band flew to Baltimore , Maryland to record their second album with producer Brian McTernan, who has already worked with Circa Survive , Thrice , The Bled and Senses Fail . The album, named after the band, hit stores on July 22, 2008, and with 4,000 units sold in the first week of sales, it entered the US album charts at number 172 . Excessive tours followed, including with August Burns Red , A Skylit Drive , The Devil Wears Prada and We Came as Romans , as well as a three-week stay on the Warped Tour in 2008. In early 2009, Kenny Schick left the group for family reasons. As a replacement, the former Periphery drummer Travis Orbin was integrated into the group. In the middle of the year singer Jerry Roush left because of differences within the band. Bryan Zimmerman became the new singer.

On April 13, 2010, The Sound of Symmetry was released as a three-track EP on Equal Vision Records. At the end of the year Zimmerman left the band, whereupon the remaining musicians decided in early 2011 to let the band pause. The fact that all band members are active in other projects - Elliott Coleman, Zack Ordway and Travis Orbin founded Of Legends , who signed with Season of Mist - as well as the constant line-up changes led to the group separating.

style

At the beginning, the group played a variant of post-hardcore , which is known in the scene as trancecore, which is heavily decorated with electronic elements - especially 8-bit music . The sound of the music on the debut album Everything Perfect on the Wrong Day was comparable with Horse the Band or Ghengis Tron . Even if the sound was very reminiscent of Horse the Band, the group managed to distance themselves from this musical influence and create passages that could also have come from Taking Back Sunday .

The musicians also used influences from electronic music on the self-titled second album, but the sound structure is much more melodic than on the debut album. At times, the group's music was also comparable to The Dillinger Escape Plan . The musical changes lasted until the end of the band on The Sound of Symmetry EP.
