Like Restoring Force, it entered the US and UK album charts. However, Cold World is the band's first album that was able to reach chart listings outside of the English-speaking world. The album was released for the first time in Germany, Belgium and Canada . Still, the album was called a "commercial flop".

reception

Cold World received mostly mixed to negative reviews from the trade press. This even led to differences of opinion among German Metal Hammer : If critic Christina Wenig wrote a devastating review, Matthias Weckmann was quite taken with the album. Little wrote that the group was gradually running out of ideas, the songs were reminiscent of Linkin Park songs from 15 years ago ( Like a Ghost , Contagious ) or had even been sorted out by Slipknot ( Pain , The Hunger ). Add to that, according to Wenig, a “breeze of grain , as well as clear vocals here and there ” and that's Cold World . She didn't call the album bad, but it was just an addition to the record box of every Nu-Metal collector. Weckmann, on the other hand, summarized that Carlile found not only God, but also divine melody lines. The first minutes of the album remind him of Stabbing Westward , A Perfect Circle , VAST and Esoterica . He describes Carlile's singing as dirtier and more punk than the singing of Chester Bennington or Fred Durst . The album has many brilliant moments and is varied.

Tobias Kreutzer from Metal.de was also quite enthusiastic. He wrote that Bring Me the Horizon would have liked to start their last album That's the Spirit like Cold World . In addition, Contagious reminds of Disturbed at times . Kreutzer is of the opinion that the mix in particular puts the album in a positive light. Cold World is not a bad album, but it also does not show the enormous popularity of the band. The group managed to make Modern Metal compatible with the masses, to keep the balance between hardness and catchiness, and to forego chart flattening. However, according to the critic, the group unfortunately refrains from daring experiments. Tobias Dahs from the online magazine Powermetal.de wrote a rather neutral criticism. He is of the opinion that the album turned out to be a big surprise, as almost nothing was left of the extremely successful sound that the band had celebrated on Restoring Force . Although the group dared to perform the musical balancing act between Metalcore , Screamo and melodic Nu Metal in its early days , the musical upheaval has never been as pronounced as it was on Cold World . He compares the change with the musical change of Linkin Park. He was of the opinion that the musical change between Restoring Force and Cold World was comparable to the change to Hybrid Theory and A Thousand Suns .

Kai Butterweck of Laut.de found at ColdWorld any favors. He wrote that although the band presented themselves as a highly talented ensemble, they could not add any new ideas to their music. The songs are predictable, are more reminiscent of Linkin Park or are referred to as kneeling before grain . Songs like Pain or The Hunger fail to give the listener a better picture of the album. So Butterweck comes to the conclusion that the group is shaking the throne of the Metalcore -Olympic like mad, but is denied them until further notice.
