Despised Icon ( English "despised icon") is a Canadian band from Montreal in Québec . The sextet played a combination of death metal and metalcore . This style is also known as deathcore . They broke up in 2010 and got back together in February 2014.

biography

Despised Icon was formed in January 2002 from members of the bands Neuraxis , In Dying Days and Heaven's Cry . The first gig took place in Port Huron ( Michigan ). Shortly after their founding, they signed a recording contract with Galy Records and released their debut album Consumed by Your Poison in October 2002 . After there were some changes of band members in the following year, a formation with the two singers Steve Marois and Alexandre Erian, the guitarists Yannick St-Amand and Eric Jarrin, the bassist Sebastien Piche and the drummer Alexandre Pelletier was formed in the spring of 2004 the self-titled EP Syndicated Murderers was recorded, followed by a split EP .

In January 2005 Despised Icon signed a worldwide recording deal with Century Media . The debut album on the new label was The Healing Process , which was released in April 2005. Despised Icon were on a promotional tour for The Healing Process in 2005 with bands like Cryptopsy , Vader , Suffocation , Aborted , Immolation and Deicide .

In 2006, the debut album Consumed by Your Poison was re-released on Century Media. In spring 2007 they were on a support tour for Unearth with Job for a Cowboy and Dååth . In 2007 the latest album The Ills of Modern Man was recorded and released. In the same year Despised Icon toured with bands like Job for a Cowboy, Suicide Silence , See You Next Tuesday , Winds of Plague and The Acacia Strain .

On June 18, 2008 Despised Icon announced that bassist Sebastien Piche had left the band and was replaced by Max Lavelle. In December 2008 guitarist Al Glassman left the band and joined Job For A Cowboy.

The live DVD Montreal Assault was released on March 24, 2009 via Century Media. The DVD contains excerpts from the sold out concert in their hometown Montreal, a documentary about the band and all music videos. In the same year the band worked on a new album, which was released on September 18, 2009 with the title Day of Mourning . In parallel, Despised Icon kept a “band diary” on the studio recordings of the album on the YouTube internet platform , from which excerpts could be heard in advance. From October Despised Icon played with Architects , Iwrestledabearonce , The Ghost Inside , Oceano, Horse the Band and As Blood Runs Black on the Imperial Never Say Die! Tour in Germany, Luxembourg and other countries.

On April 7, 2010 Despised Icon announced the split of the band at the end of the year. The reasons they stated were that they wanted to focus on family and career from now on.

After a three-year hiatus, it was announced via video on February 4, 2014 that they were reuniting for some shows.

On April 12, 2016, the band announced that they had signed a record deal with Nuclear Blast and wanted to release a new album called "Beast".
