history

Singer Marcus Jasak (2013)

Science of Sleep was founded in Braunschweig in 2010 and consists of singer Marcus Jasak, the two guitarists Sven Weber and Nils Reuter, as well as bassist Philipp Heinemann and drummer Dennis Kosinski. However, the founding members included Domenik Pasust ( electric guitar ) and Fabian Becker ( drums ).

In September 2011 the EP Affliction was released , which attracted a lot of attention and aroused the interest of the label Bastardized Recordings . The label signed the group in January 2012 and reissued the EP with a bonus track. In early 2013 the group played a few concerts with Here Comes the Kraken and Thy Art Is Murder . At the performance in Berlin on February 27, 2013, singer Marcus Jasak spontaneously stepped in for Chris McMahon, who had meanwhile fallen ill. On June 14, 2013, the band's debut album Exhaust was released over the record company. It was produced by Simon Hawemann, a musician in the band War from a Harlots Mouth . In September 2013 the group started their first national concert tour, which included nine concerts. The performances took place in Frankfurt am Main , Stuttgart , Berlin , Idar-Oberstein , Freiburg im Breisgau , Vlaardingen in the Netherlands , Düsseldorf , Munich and Hanover . The group was accompanied by The Green River Burial , who are also under contract with Bastardized Recordings.

In December 2013 the group played together with Nasty , Desolated (only in Cologne) and Coldburn as the opening act for War from a Harlots Mouth on their farewell tour. The group also played occasionally with groups such as Suffokate , Blind Witness , King Conquer , Myra , Obituary , Final Prayer , Breakdown of Sanity and First Blood .

On April 19, 2014 the group played at the Impericon Festival in Leipzig , where groups such as Maroon , Asking Alexandria , Deez Nuts , Stick to Your Guns , Betraying the Martyrs , Northlane and Hatebreed also performed. On June 21, 2014 the band will play at the Summerblast Festival in the Excellence House in Trier . The group has been confirmed for the Summer Breeze that will take place in Dinkelsbühl in mid-August .

After several teasers and a single released, Hellmouth announced the second album for November 25th on September 18, 2016 . On January 24, 2017, the musicians announced the breakup of the band.

Style and reception

The style of music is described as a mixture of deathcore . As musical influences - especially on the EP Affliction - groups like Despised Icon , The Faceless , Cryptopsy or Annotations of an Autopsy should be mentioned. The singing moves in the spheres of Whitechapel and The Black Dahlia Murder . Philipp Heinemann, bassist in the band, names groups like Thy Art Is Murder , War from a Harlots Mouth, Whitechapel and Molotov Solution as musical influences.

The band's lyrics are mostly about war , violence , psychosis , corrupt politics and religion . The song Auri Sacra Fames ( Latin for the cursed hunger for gold ) is an allusion to capitalism , which, according to Heinemann, claims innumerable victims regardless of loss.

According to Andreas Kuhlmann from Ox-Fanzine , the musicians managed to further increase the quality on Exhaust compared to the EP Affliction . At the soundcheck in Legacy , Exhaust came in 46th. The band name is based on the French film Science of Sleep - Instructions for Dreaming .
