history

The Beginnings and The Last Sunset

In spring 2007 the guitarist and songwriter Oliver Stingel worked on song ideas that would later be played live by a new band after his former band Paranoia had split up. The singer Carlo Knöpfel, who worked as a guitarist in the Nerph group, joined them. The two worked with a drum computer in order to be able to implement their first songs despite the lack of a drummer. At the same time, Stingel and Knöpfel were looking for other suitable musicians to fill the new band. César Gonin could be won as bass player. Gonin also played paranoia with Stingel. The trio was looking for a drummer for over half a year before Thomas Rindlisbacher from the band Mortal Hatred from Thun got in touch in December 2007 .

At the beginning of 2008 the group began rehearsing for the first time. Shortly after the turn of the year, Sandro Keusen joined the group as the second guitarist. Keusen had previously played for Trinity and was also active in various other projects. In spring 2009, Sandro Keusen was replaced by Christoph Gygax. Gygax had already played in the bands Close In Sight and Estate of Embers. Their first album was released in February 2009. This is called The Last Sunset and was produced and financed by Stingel. Breakdown of Sanity played concerts with well-known bands such as August Burns Red , Salt the Wound , Aborted , The Black Dahlia Murder , Cataract , Sylosis , Neaera , Youth of Today and others. Her first concert outside of Switzerland took place in Germany in 2009. In the same year the label Quam Libet Records produced a sampler under the title Heavy Metal Nation VI , on which the group is represented with the song Read My Lips . This CD was criticized by Vampster . On August 8, 2010 the group performed at the Open Air Gränichen . On the same day groups like No Use for a Name , Lagwagon , Streetlight Manifesto , Sylosis and Goodbye Fairbanks played there .

Album: Mirrors

The year 2011 began for Breakdown of Sanity with a concert in Bern on February 4th with Cataract. On April 4, 2011, Breakdown of Sanity released their second album. This is called [MIRRORS] and was also produced in-house. The producer was guitarist Oliver Stingel. In the same year, the group toured Europe with supporting acts such as Breathing While Buried, Sequoia Shade, Resurrection , Scream Your Name, Sense of a Divination and Penguins on Extasy. The group was supported on their tour by the German Fuze Magazine, Monster Energy and Macbeth Footwear. During the tour between August 20 and September 21, 2011 the band was on tour in Switzerland , Germany, Belgium , Luxembourg , France and Austria . The latter concert on September 21 only took place because the French deathcore band Betraying the Martyrs had to cancel a performance in Zurich , so that the group played a second time in the city as part of their European tour. In an interview, guitarist Oliver Stingel reported that the tour bus was broken into after a performance in Paris as part of this European tour. On December 23, 2011, the first single was released, which bears the title Chapters . A day later, the group made the song available as a free download for fans on Facebook .

In January 2012 the group played further concerts in Switzerland, Italy and Germany. In Zizers the band played together with the group The Sorrow . On April 21, 2012 Breakdown of Sanity played in Leipzig at the " Impericon Festival II " and on June 16, 2012 at the Mair1 Festival in Montabaur .

Album: Perception

The third studio album Perception was released on October 18, 2013. A tour with groups like August Burns Red and Architects was also planned. These concerts took place in April as part of the Impericon Progression Tour . The five-concert tour led through Herford , Bochum , Stuttgart , Würzburg and Munich . In addition to Architects, August Burns Red and Breakdown of Sanity, Callejon and Adept were also on view. The bands that played on the Progression Tour were also confirmed for the Impericon Festival in Leipzig and Vienna .

The group played their first concert on January 11th in 2013 in Zurich together with Scream Your Name from Bern. On June 3, 2013 it was announced that Breakdown of Sanity will play for the first time on the With Full Force . The group played on the "Hardbowl Stage" on Saturdays.

In the meantime, the group released the cover artwork and the title of the new album. It's called Perception and was released on October 18, 2013. In the United States , the album was released via We Are Triumphant , which is supported by Victory Records .

Album: Coexistence

In September 2016, the band's fourth studio album called "Coexistence" was released. This was again completely produced by Stingel in-house. In October the band went on a promotional tour through Europe for two weeks. The support acts were the Australian Dream On, Dreamer and Novelists from France. With the album, the band reached various top 50 chart positions for the first time, including in Switzerland. On May 11, 2017, the band announced that they would no longer act as such and on December 29, 2017 they played their last concert in the sold-out Biehübeli in Bern.

style

Breakdown of Sanity play the classic metalcore , in which hard guitar riffs, breakdowns and melodic instrumental insertions alternate. The singing of the singer Carlo Knöpfel consists exclusively of deep growls and a little clean singing , which is common for post-hardcore , in order to better represent emotions in the individual songs. In terms of content, the texts written by Knöpfel and Stingel deal with socially critical topics and personal experiences.

The group plays metalcore because the musicians see this genre as the best way to express their emotions in a versatile way. The modern way of playing the genre and as “tomorrow's music” is also highlighted.

“It's the incredible energy. Hardly any other style of music allows you to express your emotions in such a diverse way. We also consider modern sterility to be worth striving for - it is the music of tomorrow. "

- Oliver Stingel : in an interview at rawk.ch

The group organizes everything itself ( do-it-yourself (DIY) ), from productions to cover designs and merchandising items, to booking concerts and tours. Oliver Stingel even produced both of the band's albums. Bassist César Gonin takes care of the finances and technology. British magazine Rock Sound describes Breakdown of Sanity keeping the DIY style alive.
