Streetlight Manifesto is a New Jersey ska-punk band founded in 2002 .

Band history

Half of the group was formed from former members of the New Jersey-based ska-punk bands Catch 22 ( Tomas Kalnoky , Jamie Egan and Josh Ansley) and One Cool Guy (Dan Ross, Pete Sibilia and Stu Karmatz), the latter was already dissolved at the time.

The band initially recorded an untitled demo with four songs. Even before the work on the first album was started, Karmatz and Sibilia left the band. They were replaced by Paul Lowndes and Jim Conti, with whom they started to record the first album Everything Goes Numb , which was released in autumn 2003 and quickly made Streetlight a popular new band of ska-punk, which was probably not the last thing The reputation of songwriter Kalnoky was, who had already succeeded in doing something similar in 1998 with his band Catch 22 and their debut album Keasbey Nights .

The influence of Kalnoky on both albums ( Keasbey Nights from Catch 22 and Everything Goes Numb from Streetlight Manifesto) and the resulting parallels can be clearly seen. For example, compare the third song by Keasbey Nights with the third song by Everything Goes Numb .

  • Catch 22 - Keasbey Nights:

When they come for me I'll be sitting at my desk with a gun in my hand wearing a bullet proof vest singing my my how the time does fly when you know you're going to die by the end of the night.

  • Streetlight Manifesto - Point / Counterpoint:

So I waited by the phone but that phone never rang

And I sang so loud so I wouldn't hear the bang

When the bang never came and I never got the call: Fuck it! Thank you! I love you all!

In 2004 trombonist Mike Soprano was added to the line-up as an additional wind player . Streetlight Manifesto made their first appearances in the course of the year, almost exclusively in cities on the US east coast. Paul Lowndes and Josh Ansley also left the band; for them came Chris Thatcher and Chris Paszik. In early 2005, Jamie Egan also left, he was replaced by Delano Bonner. The many changes in the lineup did not dampen the enthusiasm of the fans, and so Streetlight Manifesto went on their first big tour in April / May 2005, where they played around 30 concerts in Europe, mostly in England and Germany. Before the tour, Dan Ross had to leave the band due to family problems, Mike Brown was his successor. During the European tour, there were further problems, which meant that the band had to complete most of the tour without Delano Bonner and Jim Conti, whose father had recently passed away.

On March 7, 2006, the album Keasbey Nights was released . This is a new recording of the 1998 album by Catch 22 under the same name. In places, new stanzas and solos have been added and old solos have been modified. In addition, the production quality of the new CD is higher than that of the original. However, new songs are not included.

Streetlight Manifesto released their third album under the name Somewhere in the Between on November 13, 2007. After they had toured the US tour of the same name, they also played with Reel Big Fish as part of their European tour in several German cities.

After the band ended their spring tour in May 2008, which they themselves describe as the toughest tour of their career, they are already planning further concerts overseas.
