history

The old logo (until May 2011)

Impericon was founded in 2004 under the name Imperial Clothing, which was changed to Impericon due to a legal dispute in May 2011. A company of the same name from Italy won a lawsuit against Impericon (at the time Imperial Clothing) for trademark infringement, so that the merchandising company had to be renamed. On May 7, 2011, the new name was announced during the Imperial Progression Festival. In a four-week online voting, in which over 10,000 fans and bands friends of the company participated, the majority voted for "Impericon". In addition to the name Impericon, the choice was the suggestion Imperation.

Several thousand people from all over Germany have already applied as photo models for the company's catalogs . In 2008 Impericon had more than 27,000 user accounts in Switzerland , Austria and Germany. On July 2, 2010, BILD published an article about the start of the vacation in Saxony, which looked for vacation jobs for schoolchildren. Among them was Impericon, which had a great demand for applications during this period. The reason for this article was the difficult situation for students to find a job during the holidays.

The company is based in Leipzig and is registered in the Leipzig District Court . Impericon belongs to IC Music and Apparel GmbH , also from Leipzig. Impericon distributes articles worldwide; Adapted websites exist for France , Spain , Austria , Switzerland , Poland , Finland , the Netherlands and Great Britain .

In 2015, the company celebrated its tenth anniversary and designed a logo especially for it, which was often seen next to the actual company logo.

Background for the name change

The starting point for the name change of the company on May 7, 2011 was an opposition procedure and legal dispute lasting several months with an Italian company that had the same name. After the ruling on the plaintiffs' older rights was unilateral, both sides agreed to adapt Imperial Clothing so that a new company name was sought starting in the last quarter of 2010.

The choice of the name was difficult, as the company wanted to convey almost the same message in the new name as with the old company name. The new name was determined on an internal and external basis. Customers and musician friends chose the new name of the company in a preliminary and later in a final selection, which was announced on May 7, 2011 during the Imperial Progression Festival . In an interview with Martin Böttcher in "FUZE Magazine" in May 2011, the founder and managing director said that they saw no other option than the name change. A relocation of Imperial Clothing to the USA or a continuation of the legal proceedings would not have been financially viable for the company for a long time.

Böttcher added that in the German trademark register alone, dozens of companies in the textile and clothing industry have secured the name "Imperial".
