Theater Titanick is an open-air - theater group based in Münster and Leipzig .

history

In autumn 1989, artists from Münster - Clair Howells, Jürgen Assmann and Uwe Köhler - developed the idea of establishing a new form of theater in public space with the aim of telling stories in large pictures in a cross-cultural way. As part of a cultural exchange, contact was made with artists in Leipzig and it was decided to realize the first joint project - Titanic . The group was founded in 1990 as a cooperation project between artists from Münster and Leipzig as an East-West cooperation and has been led by four of the founding members since then.

On August 4, 1990, the first open air production Titanic was staged as part of the city sound festival at Aasee in Münster and the title gave the group its name. The cooperation between Münster and Leipzig continues to this day, expanded by numerous international artists. The newly formed group developed its own style over the course of the first three years. With large objects, spectacular effects and grotesque figures, Theater Titanick wants to tell stories of people, nature and technology in pictures.

style

The Titanick style is characterized by the emancipation of all theatrical forms of expression, simultaneously and next to each other, formed into a unity. The aim is a total work of art in which the elements of the visual, the material, the optics, the light and the special effects play just as important a role as the drama, the music, the choreography, the dance and the acrobatics. In atmospheric images, Theater Titanick tells of mythical themes, of people, nature and technology. The actions are shaped by poetic scenarios, wild actions, grotesque characters and weird humor. It is centuries-old traditions of European folk theater that Theater Titanick takes up and combines with modern forms of expression.
