Walking Dead on Broadway is a deathcore band from Leipzig , Saxony, founded in 2009 .

history

Walking Dead on Broadway was founded in the Saxon city of Leipzig in 2009 and, after several line-up changes, consists of singer Nils Richter, the two guitarists Max and Michael, as well as bassist Kevin and drummer Stephan.

In 2012 an EP entitled Welcome to Corpse Wonderland with six pieces was recorded and released on their own. In 2014 the band signed a recording deal with Impericon Records and released their debut album Aeshma through the company. After a label change to Arising Empire , the group released Slaves, the second studio album. For the third album Dead Era , the band was signed to the SPV label Long Branch Records in 2018 and released this album in the same year.

In their career so far, the band has toured with bands such as Within Destruction , Annisokay , Venues , Neaera , and Science of Sleep, some on an international level, and has played at major music festivals such as Wacken Open Air , Summer Breeze , Full Force , and Rockharz Open Air , the Reload Festival and the Impericon Festivals .

At the beginning of May 2020 it was announced that the former singer Robert Horn had died under unexplained circumstances.

style

The music of Walking Dead on Broadway can broadly be described as deathcore . After a singer change, the style is more oriented towards Death Metal , which is based on groups like Thy Art Is Murder , Whitechapel and Carnifex . The music was already described by Metal.de on the two previous works as above-average good-class deathcore. With the release of the third album Dead Era , the band also processed atmospheric and melodic elements in their sound. On the debut album, the musicians worked without frills, but used genre-typical elements such as breakdowns , lightning-fast riffs and nasty growls .

Although the band is said to have great musical potential, the band's music has been criticized as monotonous in the past, as the musicians far too rarely ventured out of the genre conventions and barely audible melodies could be found. Using the example of the piece 01110010 , which has elements of industrial , it was shown how the band could sound if they were to experiment. At Powermetal.de , too , the lack of creative development was criticized negatively, which would be important for the genre.
