Annisokay (proper spelling: anni okay to read as Ann is okay ) is a post-hardcore - / alternative rock - band from Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt .

history

Annisokay was founded in 2007 in Halle and consists of the five musicians Rudi Schwarzer ( shouts ), Christoph Wieczorek ( electric guitar , clean vocals ), Norbert Rose (electric bass), Philipp Kretzschmar (electric guitar) and Nico Vaeen ( drums ). The name of the group is based on the song Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson , in which the protagonist, Annie, is ambushed. In an interview with the German Deafground Magazine, the musicians wished for a happy ending and therefore called the group Ann is okay . However, there is no story of how the name came about. The name is supposed to pay homage to the song and the musician behind it. Former musicians at annisokay are the bassists Torsten Schwan (until 2007), Sebastian Lohrisch (2007-2010) and Simon Sadewasser (2010-2013) as well as the drummer Kay Westphal (until 2007) and shouter Felix Fröhlich (2007-2011), as well as the Drummer Daniel Herrmann.

In the first two years after its founding, two demo recordings were released with My Ticket to Reno (2008) and The Point You Will Still Miss (2009). The first EP You, Always was released in 2010 as CD and download. This was also financed out of pocket. The group covered the piece Telephone by the American pop singer Lady Gaga . However, this cover was never released on CD. In addition, the first music video for the piece Hold My Hand appeared in 2007 ; the promo song Galaxy was released in 2011.

Annisokay (2012)

After Annisokay released their video single Sky on September 2, 2012, their debut album The Lucid Dream was released on October 1 of the same year. The album was Joey Sturgis , who already as a producer for Asking Alexandria , We Came as Romans and Emmure worked mastered . The album was recorded in the Sawdust Recordings Studio by Christoph Wieczorek, who produced the album together with Aljoscha Sieg in his Pitchback Studio . The CD release party took place on September 22nd, 2012 in the Beatclub in Dessau . The artwork comes from the South African artist Chris Valentine . In the meantime, The Lucid Dream [er] was ranked 26th in the German metal album charts on Amazon and 133rd in the rock album charts on iTunes in Germany .

The group plays concerts nationally and has performed with A Traitor Like Judas , His Statue Falls , Upon This Dawning , Intohimo , Myra , Deadlock , Xandria , Fear My Thoughts , Empty Trash , Redcraving , Broadway and Bionic Ghost Kids .

The Lucid Dream [er] has been available in Japan since March 6, 2013 . The album was released through the Japanese record company Radtone Music , which have already signed His Statue Falls and Eskimo Callboy for the Japanese market and released their albums there. On June 28, 2013 the group performed at the Mair1 Festival in Montabaur . At the end of July the group toured Germany for the first time as a headliner. The tour kicked off on July 25, 2013 in Venray in the Netherlands .

In January 2014 the group played on the We Are the Mess Album Release Tour in Stuttgart with Eskimo Callboy . The group can also be seen as the opening act on the other dates of this concert tour in Munich , Cologne , Hamburg and Berlin . Just a few days earlier, the musicians announced that they would be flying to the USA in the course of the year to work on a new album with producer Joey Sturgis . In February 2014 the band flew to the United States to work on new pieces. These will be released as an EP later this year.

In April 2014 the group signed a worldwide record deal ( excluding Japan ) with SPV . It has been announced that the debut album The Lucid Dreamer will be reissued through the record company. In June 2014 the group toured Germany. The group was the opening act for Silverstein in Munich and Berlin . In the meantime it has been announced that Annisokay will play at Summer Breeze . In February and March 2015 the group played with Vitja as the opening act for Callejon on their Germany tour. On March 20, 2015, the second studio album called Enigmatic Smile was released worldwide via SPV. It rose to number 68 in the German album charts .

In November 2016 the band released their third studio album, Devil May Care. In autumn 2016, the band could be seen again as the opening act for Eskimo Callboy during their European tour at concerts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. In the meantime, the band signed a recording deal with Arising Empire and SharpTone Records . In mid-June 2018, the band announced their fourth album Arms for August 17th and announced, after several appearances at various music festivals such as the Rockharz Open Air , Summer Breeze and the Reload Festival in summer, between October and November of the same To play a European tour every year, which was accompanied by I Set My Friends On Fire . Both bands toured the United States on a concert tour in early summer . Together with the deathcore band Walking Dead on Broadway in the opening act, the band started their first concert tour through Japan in December 2018 .

On October 21, 2019, the band surprisingly announced the immediate separation from shouter Dave Grunewald on Facebook. All scheduled shows will take place as planned, but without their participation. At the same time, a new studio album was announced for 2020. Dave Grunewald also confirmed the separation shortly afterwards and affirmed that he and the band had parted for good and without a fight and that it was not a careless decision on either side. When asked by the magazine morecore, Christoph Wieczorek assured that screams and shouts will continue to be part of annisokay's music. On October 26th the band played their first concert without Dave in Schüttorf , where they introduced Rudi Schwarzer - a member of the German hardcore band Wither and formerly LEAVE. and Arctic Island - as their new shouter.

style

music

The musicians describe their music as a mix of hardcore , metal and rock . According to partyausfall.de , the band's sound has a slightly “poppy” touch and is reminiscent of Attack Attack! . Due to the use of shouts and clean vocals , the style of music can be described as metalcore and post-hardcore . The group also uses electronic music elements. According to Allschools, the group uses a sound recipe that most groups within the scene are familiar with. Annisokay use breakdowns , catchy melodies and hard mosh parts. According to their own statement, the group tried to combine an “American sound” with a “European touch” on the album The Lucid Dream .

Texts

The texts of the group describe, especially on The Lucid Dream [er] , little horror stories that are supposed to cause something eerie and mystical. They also write about “extreme feelings”, about life and love. In the lyrics, the sunny and dark sides of love are the central theme of the lyrics, because it touches the musicians the most and served as inspiration for the lyrics.

production

The group has so far published and produced all publications in-house. Many bands in the scene work on the so-called DIY principle. A well-known group is Breakdown of Sanity from Switzerland . The productions are more professional at Annisokay , as Christoph Wieczorek also works as a music producer and runs his own professional recording studio.
