Suffokate is an American deathcore band from Oakland , California that was formed in 2003.

history

The band was founded in 2003 by friends Taylor Jones (electric guitar) and Lars Diaz (drums). Shortly afterwards, bassist Bray Almini joined the band. After a few changes in the line-up, Jamey Jasta ( Hatebreed ) became aware of the band. She released her debut album called Oakland on his label Stillborn Records . The album featured singer Ricky Hoover and guitarist Tesoro Protomartir. This was followed by a tour of the USA with Sworn Enemy , Bury Your Dead , All Shall Perish , For the Fallen Dreams and Abigail Williams . As a result, the band reached a contract with Mediaskare Records .

With this label, the band has released two albums so far: No Mercy, No Forgiveness (2010) and Return to Despair (2011). In early May 2012, singer Ricky Hoover announced that he had left Suffokate for personal reasons.

style

The band plays deathcore using clear song structures. In addition to the usual elements of the genre, aggressive elements such as singing or playing the drums are combined with softer, melodic guitar playing.
