Abigail Williams is an American metal band from New York that combines the styles of death metal and black metal . They are named after Abigail Williams from the Salem witch trials .
history
Abigail Williams attracted some attention by performing live even before the release of their EP Legend , as some of the members are active in prominent bands such as The Black Dahlia Murder and Job for a Cowboy . In addition, a bootleg called Gallow Hill was released in 2005 , on which the songs were released from their Myspace page without the band's permission.
In 2006 the EP Legends was released on the Candlelight Records label , which received mostly positive feedback. In 2008 the debut album In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns followed , with which the band had their commercial breakthrough.
The band combines symphonic black metal with death metal on a high technical level. This combination met with some rejection on the part of the conservative black metal scene.
On July 2, 2012, the band announced that the upcoming US tour would be their last and that the band would split up afterwards. In August 2015, however, Abigail Williams announced a new album entitled The Accuser on their Facebook page , which was released on October 30, 2015 via Candlelight Records. In 2019 the band released another album, Walk Beyond the Dark .
