1 round
The draw for the first round took place on July 17, 2009 at the Frankfurt DFB headquarters. The tickets were drawn by the former national player Renate Lingor . The seven best-placed teams of the previous Bundesliga season received a bye . These are the German champions 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, runner-up FC Bayern Munich, defending cup champions FCR 2001 Duisburg, 1. FFC Frankfurt, SG Essen-Schönebeck, Hamburger SV and SC Freiburg. Two regional groups were formed for the draw to avoid driving too far. The games were played on September 12 and 13, 2009.
There were largely no surprises in the first round. The third division clubs Mellendorfer TV and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim were able to prevail against second division clubs ( SV Victoria Gersten and FV Löchgau ). Two other second division clubs, promoted 1. FC Köln and FFC Wacker Munich , had to go into extra time before they could make it into the second round. The first round brought three double-digit results, including the 13-0 victory for VfL Wolfsburg at Rot-Weiß Flatow . The most successful goalscorer in the first round was Kristina Gessat from FSV Gütersloh in 2009 , who scored four goals in a 10-0 win over 1. FC Union Berlin .
