Women's soccer

The soccer players from Rot-Weiß Merl made it into the then second-class Regionalliga West for the first time in 1997 , but were promptly relegated again at the end of the season. The second promotion to the regional league in 2004 was followed by direct relegation. Only after the third promotion in 2006, the Merlerinnen were able to establish themselves in the regional league and reached seventh place in the table in the 2006/07 and 2008/09 seasons. In 2010 the team had already been relegated in terms of sport. When a place in the regional league became available after TuS Harpen joined VfL Bochum , Red-White decided not to move up in favor of FC Sankt Augustin .

In the subsequent 2010/11 season, the team was passed through to the national league, where the Merleinnen still play today. In 2009 the team qualified for the DFB-Pokal and lost in the first round to the Bundesliga club SC 07 Bad Neuenahr with 0:11.

Men's soccer

The men from Rot-Weiß Merl experienced a sporting boom in the 2000s and 2010s. In 2005, the Merler rose to the lowest division, the district league C. Two consecutive promotions brought the team in 2007 to the district league A. In 2010, they made it to the district league, which was followed four years later by the leap into the Mittelrhein regional league . At the end of the 2014/15 season, he was relegated to the district league.
