Femke Maes (born February 22, 1980 in Lokeren ) is a former Belgian football player . She was the captain and record player for the Belgian national team and was their record scorer until September 22, 2015.

Career

With the KFC Rapide Wezemaal club , Maes won the Belgian championship four times and the Belgian cup five times. In the 2006/07 season, she was the top scorer in the Belgian league together with two other players. In the 2007/08 season she moved to the Dutch club Wilhelm II Tilburg in the newly founded honor division . With Willem II she was runner-up and awarded as the best player. In the second half of 2008 Maes gave a short guest appearance at the Swedish club Djurgården Damfotboll . After the season was over, she wanted to continue playing closer to home and signed with the German Bundesliga club FCR 2001 Duisburg, with whom she won the UEFA Women's Cup and the DFB Cup in May 2009 .

Maes first played for Belgium on March 6, 1996 in a 4-0 draw against the Netherlands. She scored her first international goal on April 20, 1996 in a 6-1 win against Scotland, when she made it 1-0 in the first minute. With 24 goals she is the record scorer in the Belgian women's national team. However, she could not qualify for a major tournament with Belgium.

On February 24, 2010, Maes announced her immediate resignation from the Belgian national team. On August 5, 2010, it was accepted by FIFA into the FIFA Hundreds Club and listed there with 110 games, while the KBVB only lists 84 games in its statistics. Belgium also only made 92 caps during their playing days.
