Riem Hussein (born July 26, 1980 in Bad Harzburg ) is a German football referee of Palestinian descent. She has been a DFB referee since 2005 and has been on the FIFA list since 2009 . Hussein whistles for TSG Bad Harzburg.

Career

Riem Hussein was an active soccer player until 2005. As a striker , she played for the second division MTV Wolfenbüttel in the 2004/05 season and scored 18 goals this season. After the season she became a DFB referee and initially directed games in the 2nd Bundesliga and, from 2006, games in the Bundesliga . In 2008 she was also used as assistant referee in the women's DFB Cup final . In 2009 she became a FIFA referee and since then she has also directed European Cups and international matches. On May 15, 2010, Hussein whistled the women's DFB Cup final. She was hired as an expert by ZDF for the 2011 Women's World Cup. She was elected referee of the year 2012/2013.

For men, Hussein has been whistling games in the fourth-class regional league since 2008 . For the 2015/16 football season, she was promoted to the 3rd men's division. The match between Mainz 05 II and 1. FC Magdeburg was her first game there on the second matchday . This makes her the second referee after Bibiana Steinhaus to be used in professional German men's football.

Her main job is as a pharmacist . In 2009 she did her doctorate in the field of pharmaceutical technology at the Technical University of Braunschweig .

On December 3, 2018, she was nominated for the 2019 Women's World Cup .

At the Cyprus Cup 2019 , she led two group matches and the final between North Korea and Italy , in which she sent two North Koreans (one with a yellow-red card and another with a red card ) off the field.
