Career

Kunkel grew up near Berlin and started playing football for MSV Neuruppin when he was 12 . The women of the MSV played in the Brandenburg Association League in the early 2000s. She later played one season with the women's team at Union Berlin , then moved to the 2006/07 season for the Regionalliga promoted SV Lurup , as Kunkel was already studying to be a police commissioner at the time. In the following season 2007/08 she moved to the ambitious second division promoted FFC Oldesloe 2000 . There Kunkel developed into a leading player after the first few games. However, she pulled her first cruciate ligament tear in a friendly match against a men's team in early September 2007 and was then no longer used in the second division season. Belonging to the squad for the 2008/2009 season, Kunkel was again seriously injured in training and then stopped playing football. Afterwards, she temporarily looked after the B-Juniors of the FFC as an assistant trainer, but because of a lack of referees, she also signs up for a referee training course. From then on, her advancement in refereeing went relatively quickly. She has been a DFB referee since 2009, and has been whistling games in the 2nd women's Bundesliga since 2012, in which she has so far managed 32 games. At first she whistled for the FFC Oldesloe, after its dissolution she moved to SV Eichede. In 2015, Kunkel was nominated as referee for the 1st women's Bundesliga, in which she has led 33 games so far (as of the end of the 2018/19 season). After assisting the line at the women's DFB Cup final in 2016 , Kunkel was allowed to lead the 2019 DFB Cup final between the teams from VfL Wolfsburg and SC Freiburg.
