Elke Günthner (born July 4, 1964 ) is a former German soccer referee .
Career
Günthner grew up in Bamberg . She started refereing when she was 14, as there was no girls' soccer team in her hometown.
In 1991 she received DFB approval and in 1995 she was one of the first women to receive a FIFA license. In 2005 she was named referee of the year by the DFB . After the 2005/06 season she retired from the top division. She was still in charge of major league games and ended her career in 2008.
