Wolf-Dieter Ahlenfelder

Wolf-Dieter Ahlenfelder (born February 11, 1944 in Oberhausen ; † August 2, 2014 there ) was a German football referee .

Life

Ahlenfelder began his referee career in Oberhausen at Sterkrade 08 . He led his first Bundesliga game on August 27, 1975 ( Werder Bremen against Hertha BSC , 3: 2) and on May 21, 1988 ( VfB Stuttgart against SV Waldhof Mannheim , 1: 1) his last Bundesliga game. In 1984 he was on the FIFA list for one year , but did not appear as a referee in European Cup or international matches. Nevertheless, he was used as a linesman , including with Walter Eschweiler in a game of Liverpool FC . Between 1975 and 1988 he whistled a total of 106 Bundesliga games in which he got by with four red cards , and between 1974 and 1988 77 games in the second Bundesliga . At the age of 58, Ahlenfelder directed his last soccer game in the district league .

Ahlenfelder, who worked as a trained mineral oil businessman at BP , lived with his wife in Oberhausen-Holten .

Trivia

The game of November 8, 1975 between Werder Bremen and Hannover 96 (0-0), when the drunken Ahlenfelder whistled the first half after 32 minutes, then allowed it to continue, and finally 90 seconds before the end of regular time is particularly remembered finally whistled at halftime. He said he had a beer and a Maltese schnapps for lunch before the game . Anyone who orders an “Ahlenfelder” from the Bremen club restaurant today will receive a beer and a Maltese.

His exchange with Paul Breitner during a game is also legendary :

Paul Breitner: "Ahlenfelder, you whistle like an ass."
Ahlenfelder: "Breitner, can it be that you play like an ass?"

Awards

In the 1983/84 season, Ahlenfelder was awarded the "Golden Pipe" by the DFB as the best German referee.
