Decapitated ( engl. , Decapitated ') is a founded in 1996 Technical death metal band from Krosno .

history

Wojciech "Sauron" Wasowicz ( vocals ), Waclaw "Vogg" Kieltyka ( guitar ) and Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka ( drums ) founded the band Decapitated in 1996 in the Polish town of Krosno . At that time, Vitek Kieltyka was just 12 years old and the other two musicians were about to turn 15. A year later, the then 13-year-old bassist Marcin "Martin" Rygiel joined the group. He played together with Vogg in the black metal side project Lux Occulta .

Already on their first demo CDs, the group managed to create a sound that was strongly reminiscent of Morbid Angel , so Relapse Records brought the band to their Polish Assault Sampler with groups like Yattering and Lost Soul . That same year, Wicked World Records, a subsidiary of Earache Records , signed the band and released their debut album Winds of Creation , which was produced by Vader front singer Piotr Wiwczarek. This was followed by a tour with Lock Up by England .

A year later a tour with Immolation and Vader followed, after which the band released several demos in the form of the compilation CD The First Damned under the Polish label Metal Mind Productions . In 2002 the band released their album Nihility . In August of the same year, the group toured with Incantation , Vehemence and Dead to Fall by North America . Due to the friendship of the musicians with Vader, Decapitated took them on a European tour with Krisiun . Vitek was invited by Vader frontman Piotr Wiwczarek to act as the drummer for his Panzer X project . The band covered a song by a well-known band on each album. On the debut album was a Slayer song can, in Nihility a piece of Napalm Death and the 2004 release third album The Negation one of the band Deicide gecovert.

This was followed by short tours with Rotting Christ through Great Britain, a European tour with Mayhem and a US tour with Cannibal Corpse . The latter tour (with Cannibal Corpse) was canceled , so the band toured together with Hate Crionic and Dies Irae . Shortly thereafter, Sauron left the group and was replaced by Atrophia Red Sun front singer Adrian "Covan" Kowanek. With this the new album Organic Hallucinosis was recorded. Shortly before the band went back to the States, Marcien Rygiel left the band and Richard Gulczynski was employed as bassist. In the US, the group toured with Hypocrisy , Soilent Green , Raging Speedhorn , Nile and With Passion . Shortly afterwards the fourth album Organic Hallucinosis was released .

In October 2007, the band was involved in a traffic accident while touring Russia . The tour bus and a log truck collided. Vitek died of his head injuries three days later at the age of 23. Covan, who also suffered severe head injuries, fell into a long coma. An insufficient supply of oxygen to the brain led to impairments from which it recovers only slowly. A 2012 published status report showed him as a speaking disabled quadriplegic . The rest of the band members survived the accident without major consequences. The band was then put on hold.

At the end of March 2008 Vogg decided to continue the band activities. Musicians could use the band's email address to contact the guitarist to apply as a singer, bassist or drummer. The new line-up in 2009 consisted of Rafał Piotrowski from Forgotten Souls on vocals, Filip 'Heinrich' Hałucha, who previously played in the groups Vesania and UnSun , on bass and the former Thorns-Of-Ivy musician Kerim 'Krimh' Lechner from Austria on drums. In February 2010 the band toured England with Kataklysm .

On July 15, 2011, the follow-up album to Organic Hallucinosis was released . It is called Carnival Is Forever and, according to the band members, is significantly more progressive than its predecessor. Lechner's multi-faceted drumming also makes an important contribution to this. According to guitarist Vogg, Decapitated no longer play Technical Death Metal on this album. Instead, the music is still intense, but contains, for example, many quieter parts and even acoustic interludes. Similar to the Kreator album Hordes of Chaos , modern techniques such as triggered drums, overdubs and the like were completely dispensed with during the recordings .

In October 2011 the band toured North America with Fleshgod Apocalypse . Several subsequent concerts in Europe were canceled after the band was on the flight home from New York in LOT flight LO 016 , which had to make an emergency landing in Warsaw without the landing gear extended.

In September 2012 Kerim Lechner left the band due to personal differences and was initially replaced live by Paweł Jaroszewicz (ex- Vader ).

On December 21, 2018, the band announced the departure of drummer Michal Lysejko via social media. For the previously announced concerts in 2019, James Stewart was signed by Vader as a live replacement.
