Dead to Fall was a metalcore and melodic death metal band from Chicago , Illinois , USA , formed in 1999 and disbanded in 2009.

history

The band was founded in 1999 by drummer Dan Craig and guitarists Antone Jones and Matt Hartmann. A short time later, bassist Justin Jakimiak and singer Jon Hunt joined the band and completed the line-up. Together they developed the first songs and played appearances, among others with The Crown or Darkest Hour . This made Victory Records aware of the band and signed the group.

In the summer of 2002, the band went into the studio to record their debut album Everything I Touch Falls to Pieces . Before the release followed appearances with Caliban , Malevolent Creation and Incantation . After the album was released, guitarist Hartmann left the band, so Bryan Lear and Seth Nichols were in the band as guitarists. This was followed by a tour with Mastodon and Atreyu . A little later, drummer and main songwriter Craig, as well as both guitarists left the band, so Jakimiak and Hunt were the only remaining members. Matt Matera and founding member Antone Jones joined the band as new guitarists, and Evan Kaplan now took over the drums. With this line-up, the band went to the Trax East Studios in spring 2004 with producer Eric Rachel to record the next album Villainy & Virtue . After the release followed a tour of England with The Haunted and Martyr AD , followed by a tour of the USA with Twelve Tribes and Fight Paris . In January 2005 Tim Java joined the band as the new drummer, bassist Chris Nolan replaced Justin Jakimiak three months later. The band then went back to the studio with Eric Rachel to record The Phoenix Throne , which was released in mid-April 2006. The band now consisted of Hunt, Java, guitarists Logan Kelly and Aaron Nelson, and bassist Chad Fjerstad. Phil Merriman later replaced Matera and was on the album Are You Serious? first heard in February 2008. On May 24th, 2009 the band played on the Chicago Metro with ten members of the band's history: Matt Matera, Justin Jakimiak, Antone Jones, Timothy Java, Logan Kelly, Chad Fjerstad, Phil Merriman, Bryan Lear, Dan Craig and Jonathan Hunt.

style

The band played pure Melodic Death Metal at the beginning of their career, which is comparable to the music of In Flames , At the Gates and Soilwork . The later albums can be described as a mix between melodic death metal and metalcore.
