Purson was a British rock band from Southend-on-Sea , whose music could be assigned to the genre of psychedelic rock and stoner rock .

The band was founded in 2011 by the singer-songwriter Rosalie Cunningham ( front woman , lead guitar, vocals). Other members are George Hudson (guitar), Samuel Shove (keyboard, piano, Mellotron ), Barnaby Maddick (bass) and Jack Hobbs (drums). Purson's music has elements of 70s progressive and hard rock . The style is similar to that of Blood Ceremony and Jex Thoth , with Purson differentiated by catchy pop arrangements. The music is sometimes referred to as an "intoxicating, magical brew" that reminds of " Deep Purple , The Doors , Jefferson Airplane ...". According to critics, the style of the debut album The Circle & The Blue Door looks like it was recorded in 1971.

history

Rosalie Cunningham founded the psychedelic rock band Ipso Facto in 2007 at the age of 16 as a women's quartet. After the band split up in 2009, Cunningham took part in other music projects and founded Purson in 2011. The band made their debut at the Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands in 2012 . The first single Rocking Horse was released on March 1, 2012. The debut album entitled The Circle and the Blue Door was released on April 29, 2013. The band was voted the best new band in a reader survey by the British music magazine Terrorizer in 2013, as was their debut album as best album of 2013. Music magazine Metal Hammer listed their debut album The Circle and the Blue Door at number 15 of the best 50 albums of 2013 In April 2017, Rosalie Cunningham announced the breakup of the band after Purson released the farewell song Chocolate Money .

The band name comes from the demonology , according to which Purson is one of the kings of hell. The figure is called Ars Goetia in the 17th century magic book .
