Disobedient is the title of the fifth studio album by the American hardcore band Stick to Your Guns , released on February 10, 2015 via Sumerian Records .

The album was produced by John Feldmann , who already worked on albums with The Used and Story of the Year . The regular version contains eleven pieces with a total playing time of 29 minutes and 38 seconds; while the deluxe version has three more titles and a total playing time of 37 minutes and 16 seconds. Like its predecessor Diamond from 2012, Disobedient made it into the US album charts and is also the first album by the band to be placed in Germany .

Guest musicians included Walter Delgado from Rotting Out , Scott Vogel from Terror and Toby Morse from H2O . Motionless in White also contributed gangshouts. As singles were nobody and What Choise Did You Give Us? decoupled. In addition, the song RMA (Revolutionary Mental Attitude) was released in advance. To Nobody , What Choice Did You Give Us? and The Crown released a music video each.

Emergence

At the beginning of April 2013 a new album for 2014 was announced by Josh James , who recently joined the band and who is or was active with Evergreen Terrace and Casey Jones . During this period, the musicians already spent writing their first songs for the album. The musicians wrote a total of 18 songs for the album, some of which were written in the studio together with producer John Feldman. On February 5, 2014, the musicians moved into the recording studio with producer John Feldmann to start work on their album. Less than five weeks later, the recordings were completed.

The band was able to attract musicians such as Toby Morse from H2O , Scott Vogel from Terror and Walter Delgado from Rotting Out as guest musicians . For the gangshouts, the musicians asked Motionless in White when the group happened to meet them in Los Angeles . The musicians of Stick to Your Guns and Motionless in White are friends with each other, so that Motionless in White, despite an upcoming Australia concert tour, agreed to participate in the album.

On the album, as on its predecessor Diamond, there are isolated quotes from various speeches by the Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti .

Press reviews

Jan Hassenpflug from Laut.de writes that Disobedient leaves little room for criticism. However, he made the short total playing time as a point of criticism and put forward the thesis that musical material was missing. As a further point of criticism, he named the "Wohohoh choirs" that were built in over and over again, adding an annoying element to the coherent overall concept. All in all, Hassenpflug reviews the album positively overall: be it due to the fact that the musicians can make a lot out of a little or the guest singers on the album. Tobias Groß from Stageload believes that Disobedient seamlessly connects to Diamond . The group is now walking more in the realm of Melodic Hardcore . Groß also describes the “Woahs” as dampening the positive development, which puts the songs in a wrong light. Even lyrically, according to Groß, the band keeps getting lost in clichés. In his final paragraph he concludes that the musicians try to be something they are not, which makes the rebellious attitude that the band shows off.
