Combichrist is an American-Norwegian band that was founded in 2003 by Andy LaPlegua , initially as a solo project.

history

Combichrist was founded by Icon of Coil front man Andy LaPlegua in 2003. With the album The Joy of Gunz he left the Future Pop genre and initially turned to a harder intersection between Aggrotech and Rhythm 'n' Noise . The album was released in September 2003 via Out of Line .

Initially designed as a studio project, the two keyboard players Shaun F and Mr. Petersen as well as the drummer Joe Letz and the percussionist John H joined the one-man project . The band toured Germany, Italy, Holland and England and eventually the USA with increasing success.

In the fall of 2004, Combichrist released an EP with Sex, Drugs and Industrial , which reached the top spot of the DAC for seven weeks. In spring 2005 the album Everybody Hates You , which was particularly successful in the USA (there under the label Metropolis Records) , was released, which sounds much more technoid . In terms of text, her works mainly revolve around topics such as sex, drugs, violence as well as the individual, the transience of being and social decadence.

What the Fuck is Wrong with you People? was released in 2007 via Out of Line / Metropolis Records and had great success with a mix of typical brutal and some quieter tracks. In order to promote the new album appropriately, Combichrist undertook the next world tour under the name "What the Fuck is Wrong with this Tour?" And played in America, Europe and Australia.

After the tour, percussionist Jon H. and keyboardist Shaun F. Combichrist left, and the two newcomers Kourtney Klein and Z Marr took their places instead.

With a much more aggressive sound, Frost Ep: Sent to Destroy was released at the end of 2008 . Shortly thereafter, in February 2009, the accompanying album Today We Are All Demons was released , which also has a very European sound.

On the occasion of the release of their new album, Combichrist started their third major tour “Demons on Tour” on January 14th, 2009 with performances in America and Europe. The previous percussionist Kourtney Klein was replaced by Trevor Friedrich. In Germany they performed in Hamburg, Leipzig, Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich, among others.

At the end of 2009, Combichrist was the opening act for Rammstein on the European tour for the Rammstein release Liebe ist für alle there .

On October 8, 2010, the management of Rammstein announced that Combichrist will appear again as opening act for their only appearance in the USA , at Madison Square Garden on December 11, 2010.
