Strike Anywhere is an American political melodic hardcore band that was formed in 1999 in Richmond , Virginia .
history
The band consists of Thomas Barnett (vocals), Matt Smith (guitar), Matt Sherwood (guitar), Garth Petrie (bass) and Erik Kane (drums). The band name is derived from the so-called strike anywhere matches, with which the willingness or the possibility to strike anywhere and thus trigger the revolution is to be expressed.
The band uses the “anti-fascist circle” as a symbol, a circle with three arrows pointing downwards in the middle. This symbol became famous because of the iron front .
The album released on 5 September 2006 Dead FM is no longer like the previous albums on the label Jade Tree , but about the label Fat Wreck Chords been published, in which bands like Anti-Flag , Rise Against and Sick of It All already Released albums.
In an interview, the band announced their new album for October 6, 2009 under the name Iron Front (based on the iron front , from which the band logo is derived).
On August 28, 2012, Strike Anywhere released In Defiance of Empty Times, a collection of two live acoustic sets. The unplugged album contains eleven songs from the previous discography, recorded in 2011 as part of two benefit concerts for the benefit of Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) in Richmond and Rochester.
The band's fifth EP will be released on July 17, 2020, for the first time on the Pure Noise Records label. As a reason for another label change, singer Thomas Barnett stated in an interview with MoreCore.de that he was not a fan if listeners could already guess from the label name what a band sounds like and they are happy to work with everyone who believe in some kind of commitment to (punk rock) culture.
