Soul Demise is a German melodic death and thrash metal band from Neumarkt , Bavaria , which was founded in 1993 under the name Inhuman .

history

The band was founded in October 1993 under the name Inhuman. In November 1994 the first demo Incantations followed . The group initially consisted of the singer Jürgen "Eumel" Aumann, the two guitarists Andreas Schuhmeier and Martin Werthammer, the bass player Andreas Bradl and the drummer Andreas Brückel. A short time later, however, the line-up changed after Alex Windorfer joined the band as the new guitarist and Roland Jahoda as the new drummer. In 1996 the debut album Inner Fears was released . Within the next two years the band had more than 150 appearances, playing with Morbid Angel , Sinister , Dying Fetus and Vader . The group then changed its name to Soul Demise and released the EP Farewell to the Flesh in September 1998 . The release was followed by other appearances together with Krisiun , Deranged and Soilwork . The first album under the now changed band name followed in 2000 under the name Beyond Human Conception on Gutter Records . In addition, a limited edition of 333 pieces appeared Picture Disc - record . It was followed by other appearances together with Deströyer 666 , Decapitated and Immolation , before the singer Aumann left the band. The group then consisted of the singer Thomas Bachmeier, the guitarist Andreas Schuhmeier, the bassist Andreas Bradl and the drummer Roland Jahoda. A little later, however, Roman Zimmerhackel joined the line-up as the new singer. On the one hand, the group played with Napalm Death and performed with Huge Baby in Munich; on the other hand, both bands played together with The Great Deceiver in Hamburg in 2003 . In 2003, the next album followed under the name In Vain on Season of Mist . Like its predecessor, the album was recorded in the Berno Studio and produced by Berno Paulson . In the same year the band also played in Lachheim together with Dew-Scented , The Crestfallen and Certified Insane. In September 2004 the sampler Slaughterous Souls - A Tribute to At the Gates was released on Drowned Scream Records , for which Soul Demise contributed a cover version of the At-the-Gates song Forever Blind . In the following years two more albums appeared: The self-financed and Jacob Hansen produced Blind in 2005 Remedy Records and Acts Of Hate in 2009 Remission Records . In the meantime, the band played other concerts, including at Party.San and Up from the Ground . In 2005 the band played together with Dismember , Anata , Psycroptic and Fallen Yggdrasil in Munich . In 2010 the album Sindustry was released on Remission Records .

style

On their Facebook presence, the band lists groups from Gothenburg , especially At the Gates, as their main influence. According to Michael Schäfer from Metal Hammer , Soul Demise also manages to play Melodic Death Metal on Beyond Human Perception like Behind the Scenery without copying the Swedish style. Rather, you hear American role models such as American role models such as Morbid Angel or Slayer, and some sound structures are reminiscent of Thrash Metal. In a Metal Hammer report on In Vain , Petra Schurer wrote that the band tried above all to deal with socially critical issues with the song lyrics. According to Anzo Sadoni from Metal Hammer, the band play Swedish, melodic Death Metal on the album, which sounds like At the Gates, especially Slaughter of the Soul . The group knows how to combine the atmosphere of this album "with their own style elements like Thrash and Blast". In a Metal Hammer article, Petra Schurer also noted the closeness to At the Gates on Blind . However, the band is less old school on the album than on its predecessors. The parallels with At the Gates heard Schurer in their reviews to blind out, but death metal influences from Stockholm were heard and songs like Ignore the Truth by Edge of Sanity would sound. In advance of the Metal Hammer described the music on Acts of War as a mixture of Thrash and Death Metal, whereby, according to Dominik Winter from Metal Hammer, the band play on Acts of Hate Melodic Death Metal, with particular emphasis on a mixture Want to put melody and aggressiveness. the album is a "refined, faster combination of tradition and modernity, of brutality and melody". Almost every song on the album deals with topics of self-hatred and thus links up with the themes of Blind , hatred. Anger treated ignorance and naivete. Zimmerhackel on the lyrics of Acts of Hate : “Every song is an act of hate. On the one hand I still work through stories like my father's illness, on the other hand it's about the idea that death is playing with me as if I were a puppet that can be controlled according to my mood. The texts question whether what you think is also what you want yourself - or whether it is just something imposed by the media landscape or society. Self-hatred, because you cut yourself as self-punishment, but at the same time to gain satisfaction from it, also plays a role. ”In his review of the album, Winter described the music as melodic death metal, which combines classical and modern elements, whereby the group each other based on Melodic Death Metal from Gothenburg. Blastbeats as well as dynamic arrangements are also characteristic of the songs. An acoustic guitar is also used in the song In Blind Human Hate . According to Dominik Winter from Metal Hammer , the speed on Sindustry has increased significantly compared to its predecessor. Winter, who described the music as a mixture of Melodic Death and Thrash Metal, found that the increased aggressiveness and speed made the songs less catchy and that they would gradually open up. The songs would be "[from] slowly creeping loneliness into civilization in a world dominated by technology to the blind execution of (killing) orders". In the same article, singer Zimmerhackel also spoke of the song Cerebral Tumor : “The song describes the pesky existence of tinnitus and its greed to rob you of your mind; the change in head and being, more easily irritable and annoyed ”. In the Metal Hammer review of the album, Thorsten Zahn also described the music as a mixture of Thrash Metal and Melodic Death Metal. The melodies in particular would be reminiscent of the latter. In addition, the group has become significantly more technically demanding compared to its predecessors, while the singing is varied.
