Sinister ( lat. 'The left', later in English 'ominous') are a death metal band from Schiedam ( Netherlands ).
history
After their demo Sacramental Carnage , Sinister were signed to the German music label Nuclear Blast . The band released three albums that were well received by the audience. Mike van Mastrigt showed a keen interest in Satanism and the occult ; after his departure, Sinister's lyrical concept moved away from it. Most of the band didn't feel connected, instead the bassist Alex Paul, who now writes most of the lyrics, and the new singer wrote anti-Christian lyrics.
The crisis in the death metal scene in the mid-1990s did not leave Sinister unaffected. The band split from Nuclear Blast and released Creative Killings on the Dutch label Hammerheart Records .
This did not lead to the hoped-for upturn for the band; they returned to Nuclear Blast. The band attracted attention at times because of its singer Rachel Heyzer. Her growls were almost indistinguishable from a man's. Rachel was replaced by a male singer after a while.
The band broke up temporarily in 2005.
