Anata is a technical death metal band from Varberg , Sweden that was formed in 1993.

history

So far the band has released two demo recordings , four albums and a split album with the band Bethzaida . In 2005 they completed the recordings for the album The Conductor's Departure , which was released in June 2006 on Earache Records / Wicked World Records . Anata toured Europe with death metal bands such as Dismember , Decapitated , Rotting Christ and Psycroptic . In 2006 they played their first US appearance at the Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore . Anata have also performed at various festivals in Europe, such as B. Fuck the Commerce , Neurotic Deathfest and Gothenburg Deathfest .

style

Her style is characterized by a unique use of dissonance, including contrapuntal structures, using full and semitone harmonies as well as distorted chords. Since their music is based in large part on melody and counterfunction, unlike most death metal bands that focus more on moving chords and percussive effects (especially complex palm muting ), they are sometimes referred to as melodic death metal . Most fans, however, consider this term to be incorrect, as the term refers to a particular style of Death Metal, " Gothenburg Metal ", which includes bands such as In Flames and Dark Tranquility . Although Anata are from Sweden (which is widely traded as the origin of Melodic Death Metal), they hardly resemble these bands; rather technical death metal founders like Cynic and Atheist , who also used counter-function heavily in their songs (in both bands both guitars and the bass almost never play the same). Anata also have small jazz fusion influences that Cynic or Atheist also had, instead of combining the contrapuntal style with the modern technical death metal style, as in bands like Psycroptic or Decapitated.
