history

The band Montreal was formed at the end of 2003 in Hamburg, and the band played their first concert on December 21, 2003 in Vienna . The name Montreal is based on the birthplace of the drummer Max Power. In 2004 the band played their first appearances regularly in support of Pyogenesis as well as a tour with the Alternative Allstars .

In 2005 the debut album Alles auf Schwarz was released on Hamburg Records. The intro and outro of the record will be spoken by Oliver Rohrbeck , the German voice of Justus Jonas from the Three Question Marks . The released single As long as the flag blows was broadcast on MTV and VIVA . In the same year Montreal toured with Sondaschule , Loikaemie , Bombshell Rocks and EL * KE . After touring with Spittin 'Vicars , The Go Faster Nuns , ZSK , Randy and the Bloodhound Gang in Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Italy, Germany and Poland in 2006 , the band went into the studio and recorded the second album The Most Beautiful Language Welt , which was released in 2007 after a headlining tour in Russia. For promotional purposes, the band undertook their first own headlining tour through Germany, played as the opening act for Samiam and traveled with the Bloodhound Gang through Germany, Scotland, Ireland and Belgium. In addition, Montreal toured Estonia and Russia , where her video was now also shown on music television.

The band released their third, self-titled studio album on September 25, 2009, the pre-EP Zwischen Tür und Angel was released on June 26. From autumn 2009 to spring 2011, Montreal played their over 100 concerts in Germany and abroad, which included all sizes of audience from club concerts to headlining the Rock am Ring - Warm Up Party at the Nürburgring . At the end of 2010 the band was on their reunion tour through Germany and Austria with the German punk legend Slime .

In 2011 the band separated from the Hamburg Records label and went into the studio with producer Sascha Höhm in autumn to record the fourth album.

Shortly before the news from the Hobbythek tour in March 2012, the double single The wrong horse / Neues aus der Hobbythek was released . On May 18, 2012, the fourth studio album Paint by Numbers was released on the Amigo Records label , which the band founded for future releases.

In addition to its own Painting by Numbers tour, which lasted 18 months, Montreal toured with Royal Republic , Madsen and Itchy Poopzkid in 2013 .

Immediately after the anniversary tour Barefoot and Patent Shoe - 10 Years of Montreal , on which the band was able to sell out the 1000-person factory in Hamburg for the first time , work on studio album number 5 began. In addition to Sascha Höhm, Sebastian Blaschke was also part of the production team this time; the recordings took place in Cologne for the first time.

The album Sonic Ballroom , named after the Cologne punk bar, was released on August 15, 2014 on the band's own label Amigo Records, and the accompanying Zucker für die Affen tour took the band through Germany, Austria and Switzerland several times from October 2014 to March 2016. At the same time, the band accompanied the band Madsen on their Kompass tour for various concerts from October 2015 to February 2016 .

As part of a project trip by Viva con Agua , the band played two concerts in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa in April 2016 .

On June 23, 2017, Schackilacki , the band's sixth studio album with 12 tracks, was released.
