Lionheart is a hardcore punk band from Oakland , California, founded in 2004 .

history

Lionheart was founded in Oakland , California in 2004 and, after several line-up changes, consists of singer Rob Watson, the two guitarists Evan Krejci and Rob McCarthy as well as bassist Travis Pacheco and drummer Jay Scott.

On September 2, 2007, almost three years after the band was founded, the band's debut album The Will to Survive was released via the two record companies Stillborn Records and I Scream Records . The album was re-released two years later with bonus material. After moving to Mediaskare Records , the group released their second album on January 18, 2011, called Built on Struggle . About a year and a half later, on May 8, 2012, Undisputed, the band's third studio album, was released. An EP called Welcome to the West Coast was released on January 14, 2014 through Fast Break Entertainment . About four years after the release of their third album Undisputed , the fourth album Love Don't Live Here was released on January 22nd, 2016 via the specially founded label LHHC Records and Beatdown Hardwear . The long period came about because the musicians wanted to take a break from everything after the group broke up with Mediaskare Records, which according to singer Rob Watson was a "terrible label".

From July to September 2011 the band co-headlined the Shook Clothing Tour with I Declare War . From January 20 to 31, 2012, the group played a smaller European tour as part of the Persistance Tour in which Suicidal Tendencies and Biohazard performed as the main bands. In June and July 2012, the band toured the United States and Canada with Thick As Blood . Originally, a major European tour was supposed to take place during the same period, which was canceled. After Lionheart announced they would play a concert with Motionless in White in Hawaii , fans of the band reacted indignantly. The group announced in a statement that it was only one concert and that the band Motionless in White should not be defamed for it. Lionheart was invited by Motionless in White to play this show. With Nasty and Coldburn , Lionheart was part of the Taste of Anarchy Tour in early 2015 , which led through several European countries. It was the band's second European tour in four years. In the summer, the group played at several major music festivals, including the Ieperfest , the Traffic Jam Open Air and the Summerblast Festival . The appearances at these festivals were part of a second European tour of the band in 2015, which was partly accompanied by bands like Death by Stereo , H₂O , Born from Pain , 7 Seconds and First Blood .

On May 26, 2016, the group announced its breakup on Facebook. Five days after the announcement of the breakup, the tour dates for the farewell tour became known. This took place between July 1st and 31st, 2016 in Europe with stops at the Vainstream Rockfest , the With Full Force and the Free & Easy Festival . Lionheart also played for the first time in Serbia and Greece . This concert tour was continued in mid-August 2016, so that the group played their very last concert in Germany on November 5, 2016 . In 2017 the band announced their reunion and a tour with Nasty .

style

On The Will to Survive , Lionheart play a version of hardcore punk in the best Hatebreed style . Lionheart's music is also comparable to Terror , Shattered Realm and Settle the Score . The band also uses influences from the beatdown and two-step in their sound , which makes the music particularly brutal and with a high proportion of mosh. The band Cro-Mags can also be described as the band's musical influence. By and large, the reviewer describes the music as a mix of hardcore and metal .

Even on the band's second long player, the sound remains quite aggressive. This is ensured by guest musicians who have taken the band on board for various songs, including Brendan Schiepatti , Dave Nassie , both from Bleeding Through , Karl Buechner from Earth Crisis , Bruce LePage from 100 Demons and Lord Ezec . The music is comparable to the Hatebreed and Terror already mentioned, as well as First Blood and Blood Stands Still .
