Silent Decay was a modern metal band from Munich . Originally the band started with a mixture of Thrash Metal and Death Metal , but over time they incorporated more and more elements from the areas of Neo-Thrash , Screamo or Metalcore .

history

The band was founded in 1993 and existed until 2010. For the first eight years, however, the group was more of a school band existence, which can be seen from just two published demos. From 2001 the whole thing took shape and until 2003 Silent Decay released another three demos.

On August 1, 2005, the debut album World of Lies, produced by Herman Frank ( Accept , Victory ), was released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland via Atomic Symphony Records . On March 31, 2006 the album was also released in Italy and England. A video clip was also produced for the song You Stupid One .

Two years later, on September 21, 2007, Silent Decay released their second album The Pain of Creation . The album was recorded in the Hospital Underground Studio Holzkirchen and subverZStudio in Munich. Once again Herman Frank was responsible for mix and mastering, this time in his Arena 20 studio in Hanover. Silent Decay didn't want anything ordinary for the artwork either. And so Meran Karanitant was committed, who u. a. has worked for Six Feet Under , Hatebreed and Chimaira . The album was released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on the new label Artist Station Records .

In late 2008 / early 2009, the third album entitled Kings of the Dead End Road was produced. Between December 2008 and April 2009 ten songs were recorded in the Arena 20 Studio Hanover, Media Base Studio Geretsried and Hospital Underground Studio Holzkirchen. Herman Frank was again responsible for the instrumental recordings. This time Jürgen Plangger and Basti Wedekind took care of the vocal parts, mix and mastering was again done by Herman Frank. The album was released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on June 26, 2009 via Artist Station Records.

All three albums were promoted with numerous tours and live shows. Silent Decay appeared in over 400 shows in almost all of Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary). Including as a support act for bands like 36 Crazyfists , Killswitch Engage , Heaven Shall Burn , Volbeat , Kreator , Soilwork , Caliban , August Burns Red , Pro Pain , The Sorrow or Emil Bulls .

On April 14, 2010 the band announced that they would split up due to lack of time. As a farewell present to their fans, they produced the live DVD Endspiel from their last concert, which took place on July 31, 2010 in Backstage Munich , which was released on March 26, 2011.

Only drummer Flo Schönweitz (then Schmid from 2016) continued his musical career after the end of Silent Decay. From the beginning of 2012 he played for six years with the German metalcore band Tenside (band) . During this time he released two studio albums with the group and played numerous tours at home and abroad. Among other things, renowned festivals such as Wacken Open Air , With Full Force and Summer Breeze . In January 2018 Schmid announced in an official statement that he was leaving the band, in which he declared his musical career to be over for good.
