Götz Widmann (born November 23, 1965 in Bad Brückenau ) is a German songwriter .

Life

Widmann was born in Bad Brückenau and grew up in Heidelberg . From 1993 to 2013 he lived in Bonn, then in Biglen ( Switzerland ). He has lived in Berlin since 2018. Even as a teenager, his dream was to be able to make a living from writing. However, early attempts as a journalist failed. He began studying history and German studies, but after a short time he broke off these directions and switched to business administration studies , which he successfully completed. Originally Götz Widmann and his friend Martin "Kleinti" Simon formed the songwriting duo Joint Venture (1993-2000), which is particularly well known in the alternative scene . This stood out from the big names in the scene from the 1970s and thus had a style-forming influence on the newer generation of songwriters .

Widmann has been working as a solo artist since the end of the same year. His songs are partly satirical, partly funny and mostly deal with everyday issues, politics , sexuality , alcohol and hashish . Since the solo album Zeit , which was released in 2004, there has been a noticeable development towards more serious and more thoughtful attitudes, but his anarchist, cynical humor remains Widmann's trademark. Widmann mainly accompanies his singing with acoustic guitar . Since the former colleague Simon, who used to play the harmonica , is missing from live performances of old joint venture songs , Widmann learned this instrument himself in the summer of 2002 and has sometimes played it at his concerts since then. At the beginning of his solo time, Widmann regularly created the opening act for well-known formations such as The Busters or JBO . In contrast to his other albums, he recorded his solo album Do you love , released in 2006 , with a complete formation. He was supported by Strom und Wasser , Janina , Kriss Cologne , Rüdiger Bierhorst , Vito C. from JBO and others. His last two albums War and Peace and Sittenstrolch are also recorded with a band. On the live albums Bärndütsch and Wander circus as well as the studio album War and Peace , Widmann was accompanied by the songwriter trio Billy Rückwärts .

In 2006 his first DVD Harmless was released. The filmmaker Holger Brömel accompanied Widmann for four years. In the process, they got to know each other very intensively, which is reflected strongly on the DVD. A live DVD followed in 2013.

In recent times, Widmann has continuously released new albums and toured regularly through Germany, Switzerland and Austria. He almost always plays his live concerts solo, without a fixed setlist; a different mix of old and new songs is typical every evening.

With his former wife Fabia, Widmann runs the songwriter label Ahuga! founded, which mainly takes care of the development of young songwriters. To Ahuga! released albums by artists such as Simon and Jan, Falk , Jakob Heymann , William Wormser, Markus Sommer, Lennard Bertzbach and Robert Kauffmann.
