The Busters are a German ska band from Wiesloch in Baden-Württemberg , which was founded in 1987 only as a leisure project, but is now one of the most famous German ska bands and has also achieved international recognition.

Band history

1987 to 2008

In 1988 her first album Ruder than Rude was released on the Weser label . In 1989 the group went on their first major tour of Germany with the Bad Manners . In the same year the band recorded two songs together with Laurel Aitken on their album Couch Potatoes and accompanied the musician on a tour as a backing band. Then trombonist Jan-Hinrich Brahms switched from the Busters to the British ska legend Bad Manners. Today he plays in the Darmstadt band Ska Trek . His successor was Robert Göhring.

Around 1990 The Busters with Skaos from Krumbach in Bavaria, No Sports from Stuttgart, The Blue Beat from Jülich, El Bosso & die Ping-Pongs from Münster, Blue Chateau from Hamburg and Blechreiz from Berlin were among the pioneers of the German ska scene and performed numerous concerts together.

In 1991 drummer Gunther Hecker resigned. In the same year, The Busters played a club tour in the USA with the American ska band The Toasters without a permanent drummer . The subsequent album Dead or Alive - for the first time with Stefan Breuer on drums - satirized the American way of life. In 1992 a live album was released with Cheap Thrills . In the same year, Jochen Seiterle was hired as another guitarist.

After another US tour along the west coast in 1993 and the 1994 album Sexy Money , singer Thomas Scholz and guitarist Martin Keller left the band. While Scholz's successor was Markus Sprengler , a well-known singer in the Rhine-Neckar region , no other guitarist was accepted into the band due to Seiterle's experience. In 1995 the Busters got the offer to headline a ska evening at the Montreux Jazz Festival . A live CD was recorded. The Montreux appearance led the Busters to the record company Sony , which released the album Stompede in 1996 and the Best of Boost Best in 1997 . Then the band split from Sony and switched to SPV / Dogsteady Records.

With the album Make a Move and the new guitarist Alex Lützke, the Busters went on tour with the doctors in 1998 . In 1999 the Swingvergnügen project came into being , to which several members of the Busters also belonged. With this band they dedicated themselves to the Neoswing and released the album Road Rage.

After the tenth album Welcome to Busterland , the two founding members “Mäx” Grittner and Klaus Huber left the Busters for professional reasons . In the summer of 2000 the band worked with the doctor- guitarist Farin Urlaub and brought out the single Liebe macht blind with him . The following “No Risk No Fun” tour was the debut of the new members Rolf Breyer (bass) and Richard Tabor (vocals).

The album 360 ° (2001) once again contained the new songs from the single with Farin Urlaub as bonus tracks. In addition, the band will also be performed by Dr. Ring thing supported. The Busters' horns have been accompanying Farin Urlaub and his “ Farin Urlaub Racing Team ” on tour since 2002 .

The band celebrated their 15th anniversary in 2002 with a large open-air concert in their hometown of Wiesloch in front of 7,000 enthusiastic fans. In the summer of 2003, The Busters fulfilled a long postponed wish to record an album in the style of early Jamaican Ska with Revolution Rock . In November 2004 the band made a successful debut in Japan . Influenced by this, the band released the EP Sukiyaki vs. Tokyo Ska Zone.

The band has now founded their own label "Ska Revolution Records", which also released the 2005 long player Evolution Pop , in which Farin Urlaub is named as the producer of two songs. In addition, singer Ron Marsman, who has since acted as the second front man alongside Richard Tabor, was brought on board for the recordings. In autumn 2006 the live EP Ska, Sweat & Tears was released, which was only available for download on the official homepage and was not released on CD.
