No Sports is a ska band from the Stuttgart area.

history

The band was founded in September 1985 by DM Dollar, Gerald, Wenne and Flupp, four members of the punk band Adventure Under Water . Wenne left the band in December. T'Schelle was added as a drummer, and Turbo, Ev and Klaus (trumpet and saxophone).

By 2002, the band had a total of 27 musicians whose music style initially only included classic ska, later also elements from hip-hop , rap , raggamuffin and reggae . The band had their greatest successes with the songs "King Kong", "Stay Rude, Stay Rebel" and "Girlie, Girlie", each of which was followed by a tour of Germany and an extensive tour of Europe with performances in Italy, France, Switzerland and Germany , Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark. The band performed together with Laurel Aitken at international festivals .

Nu Sports

Since the beginning of 2005 the band appeared again as Nu Sports . In July 2008, Nu Sports went on tour to Japan.

Nu Sports was involved in the resistance against the rail and urban development project Stuttgart 21 . During the demonstrations there were several appearances in 2010.

As the opening act for their declared idols Madness , the musicians said goodbye to their fans on July 5, 2012 with a last concert on the occasion of the Jazzopen on Stuttgart's Schlossplatz.

Start-up

On August 3, 2013 the band appeared again as No Sports at the 34th Umsonst & Draußen in Stuttgart-Vaihingen with a new line-up.

Significance in music history

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, No Sports was one of the first pioneers of the German ska scene with Skaos from Krumbach in Bavaria, The Busters from Wiesloch, The Braces from Jülich, El Bosso & the Ping-Pongs from Münster and Blechreiz from Berlin , they performed numerous concerts together.
