Dr. Ring-Ding , real name Richard Alexander Jung (born June 2, 1970 in Münster ), is a German ska , reggae and dancehall artist.

life and career

Jung lives in Germany, but spent part of his childhood in France, his mother's home country. He started playing the recorder at the age of six and later switched to trumpet and trombone. From 1981 to 1989 Jung played in the trombone choir of the Markus parish in Münster. From 1980 to 1989 he went to the Pascal Gymnasium in Münster, where he graduated from high school in 1989.

In 1987 he joined the ska band El Bosso & the Ping-Pongs under the name of Prof. Richie Senior as a trombonist and second front man. Christmas 1992 he founded the band Dr. Ring-Ding & The Senior Allstars , which broke up in October 2002. Dr. Ring thing is u. a. known for his typical Jamaican style spoken chant called toasting .

Well known is Dr. Ring Ding also for ska and reggae projects with big names in the scene from the very beginning, such as B. Lord Tanamo , Doreen Shaffer and the Skatalites . Dr. Ring-Ding in spring 2000 with his collaboration with the German crossover band H-Blockx and their cover version of the Johnny Cash classic " Ring of Fire ".

Richard Jung worked as a presenter for WDR , is a producer and studio musician for various bands. With members of the Rotterdam Ska-Jazz Foundation he formed “Kingston Kitchen”, which presents a mixture of traditional ska , blues and swing on their album “Today's Special” .

Between 2013 and 2020, Dr. Ring-Ding under the name Richie Alexander as a singer and permanent member of the ska band The Busters .
