Lettering of the band name

Third choice is a German-speaking rock and punk band from Rostock .

Band history

The Rostock punk band Third Choice (also: 3rd Choice ) appeared for the first time in 1988. In the original line-up, they played with Marko “Busch'n” Busch as front man and Toralf “Holm” Bornhöft on bass, who left the band in 1991. In the trio line-up with Busch'n (vocals, bass), Gunnar Schroeder (guitar, vocals) and Jörn "Krel" Schroeder (vocals, drums) they achieved nationwide fame and considerable success in the German punk scene.

Third choice play German punk with clear metal influences and sing very direct, politically militant, left-wing lyrics, for which there was the usual state repression in the GDR times .

With their song Macht die Augen auf , they took a critical stance on the riots in Rostock-Lichtenhagen in 1992. The song Mainzer Straße deals with the evacuation of Mainzer Straße in Berlin in 1990. Bad K. deals with the controversial circumstances surrounding the death of Wolfgang Grams .

In 1998, the band founded their own label called Rausch Records , which was later renamed Third Choice Records . Since then, all of the band's publications have appeared on this. Today there are ten official studio albums as well as three live or three compilation CDs and four live videos / DVDs.

On January 17, 2005, the 35-year-old Busch'n died of stomach cancer . The remaining members did not want to break up the band, but to continue their career; this was also an express wish of Busch'n. Since April 19, 2005 Stefan Ladwig, who was previously guitarist for the Crushing Caspars , has been playing bass.

For their 25th band anniversary, the tribute album 25 Years - 25 Bands was released on CD and double LP in September 2013 . Then covers 25 bands from different genres such. B. In Extremo , Dödelhaie , Rasta Knast , Heaven Shall Burn , The Fat Police Officer , Killerpilze and Wilde Zeiten known songs of the Rostockers.

On January 31, 2015, the band released their ninth studio album Geblitzdingst , which entered the German album charts as the first third-choice record. As a new fourth member, Holger H., the drummer of the Münster-based punk band Daddy Longleg, was hired as guitarist and keyboardist. Album 10 was released on September 1, 2017, and reached number 12 in the German album charts.
