The fat police officer (2005 to 2014 under the abbreviation ddp ) is a German punk rock band founded in 1993 . The members come from Cologne , Berlin , Koblenz and Leverkusen .

history

The band was formed in 1993 by Matthias Schwickert ( vocals , guitar ) and Marco Buchner ( bass ), who are still in the band today as "Schmatzel" and "Wuschel", "Zitro" Christian Lieser ( drums ) and "Häns" Hans Staat ( Guitar). Their first demo, No Love, No Justice , appeared in 1994 . The band became increasingly known through many concerts. They also played as support for WIZO or the Dödelhaien . Now individual ddp songs have appeared on some samplers and in 1997 their second demo, Wir haben's , which was sold out very quickly. In 1998 came their third and final demo, What disturbs the dear neighbors out, which attracted the attention of Nix-Gut Records . In the same year, the new label released their first album Es geschah am Helixten Tag . The album was quite successful compared to other bands in the punk scene and got some positive reviews. In 2001 the band decided to split up due to a lack of motivation.

reunion

Matthias Schwickert, however, started a new attempt and re-founded the band with Carsten Schmidt (“Capri”) and Claus. From 2002 they played in this combination ... and hope dies last . In the same year, however, Claus left the band for personal reasons and "Wuschel" got back on as a bassist. Thorsten, known as "derThorsten", joined as the second guitarist six months later. In 2004 they recorded the live split album together with the band Razzia , on which they also presented the first new songs.

renaming

In 2005 the name “The Fat Police Officer” was changed to simply “ddp”, as the old name was often attributed to fun punk . That was also the name of the album ddp , which was released in the same year . A break was planned after the tour in 2006. But this was canceled due to a raid on their label Nix-Gut and the band took part in the tour planned by Nix-Gut with the slogan: “We will not let ourselves be forbidden!” Ddp took a break in early 2007.

In 2008 the band switched from Nix-Gut to Impact Records and released the album Alexithymie with the video clip for the song 999 there . The album Tempo Alter! was released on September 30, 2012 by Third Wahl Records.

In 2014 the band returned by name to their straight musical punk rock roots and has since been active again as “The Fat Police Officer”. The first album under the new old name was released in 2015 on Third Choice Records. It is about the 5-track EP “Naive Automaten”.

Line-up change

On March 15, 2014, Carsten “Capri” Schmidt announced on the band's website that they would be leaving on March 28, 2014 after a last concert together at the Blue Shell club in Cologne. In addition, Thomas, who had only been part of the cast since the end of 2013, left the band again. On May 2nd, 2014 “Hörmen” (ex “Kings of Crime”) and “der Waldi” (ex “Kraut & Rüben”, “NiJuSan” and others) were introduced as new band members.

About the fat cop

In reviews of their records it is often mentioned that Der dicke Polizist makes exceptionally profound lyrics for a German punk band. This is surely one of the reasons the band has a loyal fan base.
