Razzia ( spelling : RAZZIA ) is a German-speaking post-punk band founded in Hamburg in 1979 .

history

1979-1992

The punk band Razzia was founded in Hamburg at the end of 1979 by the brothers Andreas Siegler (guitar) and Peter Siegler (drums) and Thomas Harm (bass). Andreas initially took over the vocals, a little later Frank Endlich (guitar) joined as well as Rajas Thiele as the new singer. After first appearances the bassist left the band in 1980 and was replaced by Thorsten Hatje. Through the agency of the band Slime, Razzia performed at festivals in Hanover and Bremen . In contrast to Slime , Razzia were not a purely politically motivated punk band. In the texts, grievances of all kinds were often tackled in a very gloomy and cynical way and were implemented very aggressively by Rajas Thiele in the early years.

In 1981 the band was shown on the sampler Underground Hits I of the label Aggressive Rockproduktionen with two pieces and then became known outside of Germany. After Thorsten Hatje left, Sören Callsen took over bass in 1982. This was followed by an engagement with the Hamburg label Weird System , which also released the band's first LP "Tag ohne Schatten". The band performed in Sweden , Norway , Denmark , Spain , Austria and Switzerland .

The recordings for the LP "Los Islas Limonados" were made in 1985 at a concert in the Ballhaus Tiergarten . With a new musical and lyrical direction, the third album “Ausflug mit Franziska” was released in 1986 with the inclusion of a keyboard with Jan-Friedrich Conrad, which was atypical for punk bands, who was subsequently replaced by Andrea Messerschmidt and Bernhard Waack. Waack later took over the guitar.

Peter Siegler briefly switched to Destination Zero and was replaced by drummer Marcel Zürcher, but soon returned. In 1989 the album "Menschen zu Wasser" was recorded. Musically and lyrically, this moved further away from punk. Frank finally left the band some time after the album was released. Sören Callsen also left the band during the production of the album “Tracks” (1991), but continued to work on the creation of lyrics and bass tracks. His successor on bass was Christian Both. Then Bernhard Waack was replaced on guitar by Martin Siemßen. This was followed by the release of a live album, which was recorded in 1992 at a concert in Hamburg's "Fabrik". Then the band broke up first.

1993-2004

Since 1993 Christian Both, Peter Siegler, Martin Siemßen and Andreas Siegler have continued to run the band - albeit with a heavily changed line-up. The new singer Stefan Arndt took the place of Rajas Thiele. The following tour also led to the new federal states for the first time. In 1995 the album "Labyrinth" was released. Arne Brix took over the drums for Peter Siegler, who founded another band. Another tour in 1996 was unsuccessful and after Christian Both left Thomas Gerion took over the bass. In 1999 the album "Eyewitness Reports" was released. In another line-up, Peter Siegler returned and took over the guitar in place of Martin Siemßen. Another CD and LP production, “Relatively Safe on the Beach”, followed in 2004. Andras Siegler broke several fingers in an accident and was initially unable to play. A short time later Peter Siegler left the band again and after another tour with a live CD, the collaboration of this band lineup was over.

Since 2008

Rajas Thiele, Frank Endlich, Sören Callsen, Bernhard Waack, Peter and Andreas Siegler have been working together again since 2008 - also motivated by the homage EP Ausflug mit Razzia by Olli Schulz and the dog Marie - and have performed in the Ruhr area, Lower Saxony, Hamburg and others Berlin on. For health reasons, however, Peter Siegler was replaced on drums by Arne Brix, who had previously worked with the band. Since 2011 the early albums have been re-released in collaboration with the Colturschock label . In addition, numerous audio cassettes with previously unreleased titles from previous live performances and studio recordings were digitized.

After further line-up changes - Joachim Bernstorff took over the drums for Arne Brix in 2013, Peter Siegler took over the bass for Sören Callsen a little later, Bernhard Waack left the band in 2016 - followed after several years of preparation in 2019 the release of the 14 new album “Am Rande von Berlin “At Major Label , for which three videos have been produced and published so far.

In November 2018, Andreas Siegler withdrew from the concert business for health reasons; Torsten Becker took over his part in live performances since January 2019.

Torsten Becker died on December 13, 2019.
