Four Year Strong is an American pop-punk band from Worcester , Massachusetts .

history

The band was formed in 2001 at a Worcester high school that O'Connor, Day and Massucco attended together. Initially the band consists of only three members, who together recorded their first demo band in 2002. Joe Weiss later joins as a bass player. With this line-up, the band recorded the EP The Glory in 2003.

In 2005 Four Year Strong released their debut album It's Our Time . At that time their style was even rougher and more oriented towards Melodic Hardcore . The band named their self-titled studio album as their fourth album in 2015, which leads to the conclusion that It's Our Time is not considered a full-fledged album by the band, possibly due to its very low circulation and raw production. In 2006 Josh Lyford joined the team as a permanent keyboardist and completed the line-up. With this permanent line-up they recorded their second album Rise or Die Trying in 2007 . The style has become significantly more melodic due to the frequently used keyboards.

In 2008 Four Year Strong switched from I Surrender Records to Decaydance Records, the label of Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz. Through this label, the band released their cover album Explains it All in 2009, which is based on pop-punk covers from 1990s rock hits, such as B. from Nirvana or Everclear .

On December 21, 2009 the single It Must Really Suck To Be Four Year Strong Right Now was released , which is also included on the fourth studio album, which is entitled Enemy of the World and was released on March 9. The name of the single is derived from a CD review by the band Set Your Goals , where the author gave their album This Will Be the Death Of Us a good rating and ironically said that he was not in the shoes of Four Year Strong at the moment wool. They also released a single for the song On A Saturday , which is titled Tonight We Feel Alive (On A Saturday) on the single .

Since 2011, Four Year Strong are just a quartet because keyboardist Josh Lyford left the band. In the same year, the studio album In Some Way, Shape, Or Form was released on November 8th, which marks a musical step towards alternative rock and was received rather mixed by both critics and fans. Following the tours for the new album, the band took a break in 2013.

It was not until July 2014 that the EP Go Down in History was released on Pure Noise Records , on which Four Year Strong returned to their original musical style. The studio album , simply titled Four Year Strong , was released on June 2, 2015 and is the definitive return to the style of Enemy Of The World , with the exception of keyboard sounds.

Style and Influences

Four Year Strong play modern pop-punk with structural influences of hardcore punk and metalcore . Together with bands like New Found Glory and The Wonder Years, the band coined the term "Easycore" and is one of the pioneers of the genre.

Elements of alternative rock can also be found in the band's music. This is particularly noticeable on the album "In Some Way, Shape, or Form".
