Shakopee is a city in Minnesota , USA with 29,335 inhabitants (2005). It is the administrative seat of Scott County . Today it is one of the fastest growing cities in Minnesota.
history
The city of Shakopee was founded in 1857 on the edge of the Minnesota River . East of today's Shakopee, a village called Teen-tah-o-tan-wa was founded by the Dakota of Chief Shakopee . Today's city was named after him in memory.
Explosion at the Rahr Malting Company
Several people were injured on April 25, 2013 in an explosion at the Rahr Malting Company , a grain company founded in 1935 . The explosion in one of the grain silos occurred at 12:45 p.m. local time. The fire then spread to two tanks belonging to the energy company Koda Energy and partially paralyzed the power supply.

Shakopee is located in the southwest of the metropolitan area of the Twin Citys, about 25 miles from Minneapolis . It is also close to the Minnesota River . According to the United States Census Bureau , the area of the city is 73.7 km².
