Funeral for a Friend (FFAF) was a British post-hardcore / alternative rock band from Bridgend , Wales , formed in 2002 .

history

In early 2002, Funeral for a Friend was founded after the band members had previously played in various bands.

They didn't get their name from the Elton John song Funeral for a Friend , but from the song of the same name by the American hardcore punk band Planes Mistaken for Stars .

Your first EP Between Order and Model was discovered by Warner Music and got you a record deal with the sub-label Infectious Records . In early 2003 two more EPs followed, first Four Ways to Scream Your Name and a little later Seven Ways to Scream Your Name.

In October 2003 they released their first album Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation , with which the band made a name for themselves. After that, FFAF toured for a year, u. a. as opening act for Iron Maiden .

In June 2005 her second album Hours was released , which was produced by Terry Date ( Deftones , Limp Bizkit ). In autumn 2005 FFAF toured as headliners of the international version of American Taste of Chaos tour with The Used , Killswitch Engage , Rise Against and Story of the Year by Australia , Japan , the UK , Germany and Austria .

In the spring of 2006, the Taste of Chaos tour followed in America and concerts in Australia and Japan. The tour in Great Britain ended in mid-May 2006, where the FFAF live double CD Final Hours At Hammersmith , limited to 1,000 copies worldwide, was also made.

At their last live concert in the UK in 2006, FFAF also announced that they would be recording a new album. The album was announced by Matt Davies for spring 2007. The album is titled Tales Don't Tell Themselves and was released in May 2007. In the third quarter of 2007 the live EP The Great Wide Open was released , which contains live songs from the first three EPs.

Funeral for a Friend has also announced a new single for May 2008, which should give an impression of the style of the new album. According to the band, the new album should sound like their first album Casually Dressed & Deep in Conversation and be much heavier than its predecessor Tales Don't Tell Themselves . The name of the first new single is Waterfront Dance Club . The new album is called Memory and Humanity and was released on October 13th. In addition, a new single was released in September called Kicking and Screaming .

In September 2008 Gareth Ellies-Davies left the band. Gavin Borough, whom the band had known for a long time, came to replace Gareth.

In July 2009, Funeral for a Friend appeared as the opening act at Linkin Park concerts in Germany and the concert in Graz / Austria.

In October 2009 the album Your History Is Mine: 2002-2009 was released . It's a best-of album with songs from the two EPs, the four studio albums, as well as the cover songs, the B-sides and four new songs.

In 2010 FFAF toured as the opening act for Bullet for My Valentine .

In September she released the EP The Young and Defenceless exclusively through Pledgemusic .

On May 22, 2012, Ryan Richards announced his departure. Pat Lundy, the former drummer for the London metal band Rise to Remain , replaced Richards on drums.

In 2012 FFAF toured as the opening act for Silverstein .

In 2014, Pat Lundy left Funeral for a Friend and joined Modestep . His successor is Goodtime Boys drummer Casey McHale from Brighton (GB).

On September 14, 2015, the band announced on their Facebook page that they would split up after a farewell tour in March 2016.
