Mod Sun (actually Dylan Smith , * 10. March 1987 in Bloomington , Minnesota ) is an American rapper , author and a former punk - drummer . He is signed to Rostrum Records and released his debut album Look Up on March 10, 2015 via the label.

life and career

Dylan Smith was born Derek Smith on March 10, 1987 in Bloomington, Minnesota. When he turned 18, he changed his first name to Dylan Smith. Mod Sun now lives in Los Angeles , California .

Between 2004 and 2009 he was the drummer of the US post-hardcore band Four Letter Lie and played for a year as a session musician for Scary Kids Scaring Kids before the band split up in 2010. He also played as the opener on the last Scary Kids Scaring Kids tour in 2010, where he also helped the band out as a drummer.

His career as a rapper , which he started under his pseudonym Mod Sun, also dates back to 2009. As a rapper, he released several singles, six mixtapes , as well as three EPs and one album. The album, which bears the name Look Up , was released on March 10, 2015 via Rostrum Records and made it to number 120 in the US album charts , which is raised by Billboard . Mod Sun is an acronym and stands for Movement On Dreams, Stand Under None . He has already collaborated with several well-known American rappers, including G-Eazy , Machine Gun Kelly , Travis Barker , Dizzy Wright and Jodi Highroller . In 2012 , 2014 and 2015 Mod Sun played on the Warped Tour , he also had an appearance at the Extreme Thing in Las Vegas , Nevada in 2013. He has also toured with Breathe Carolina , Jonny Craig , Cisco Adler and Tayyib Ali and Pat Brown .

In addition to his activities as a musician, Mod Sun writes books. In 2012 he published the autobiography Did I Ever Wake Up? , as well as the poetry book My Dear Pink in 2015 , and a journal entitled Happy To Be Here , which received a sequel in 2016.
