Cristina Agosti-Garosci
Cristina Agosti-Garosci (born April 26, 1881 in Turin ; † May 2, 1966 there ) was an Italian Romance and Polonist who translated important works of Polish literature into Italian. Her son is the legal historian Giorgio Agosti .
Life
Agosti-Garosci was born in Turin on April 26, 1881. At the University of Turin , she studied Romance languages with Arturo Graf and Rodolfo Renier . She did her doctorate with a thesis on Margaret of Navarre .
After completing her studies, Attilio Begey won her over for the “Pro Polonia” committee he founded in Turin. She began studying Polish culture and translating with her older sister Clotilde. She also worked in the administration of the Institute for Polish Culture and the Società pro Cultura Femminile.
She wrote several literary articles, first in magazines such as "Nuova Antologia", "Giornale Storico della Letteratura Italiana", "Vita Italiana", "Rivista delle Letterature Slave" and "Europa Orientale" and then often in abbreviated form as a preface for the translations initially made with her sister appeared.
In 1928 Agosti-Garosci took part in a course for Italian Polonists in Zakopane , which was her only stay in Poland.
She also wrote articles on Polish literature in the "Dizionario delle opere e dei personaggi di tutti i tempi e di tutte le letterature" (Bompiani, 1949–52, 1957).
After the Second World War she was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order Polonia Restituta for her services .
