Holmdel is a part of the borough of Monmouth County , New Jersey , United States .

geography

Holmdel is connected to the road network by the Garden State Parkway . Holmdel is approximately 45 km as the crow flies from Manhattan in New York City .

history

Holmdel was created by an ordinance of February 23, 1857 from the municipality of Raritan (now Hazlet ).

Economy and Infrastructure

The Bell Laboratories , now Alcatel-Lucent have operated in Holmdel Research, where among other things 1931 the radio astronomy by Karl Guthe Jansky has been discovered. Alcatel-Lucent closed the site for good at the end of 2007. The location has been for sale since then.

The PNC Bank Arts Center (previously Garden State Arts Center) is an amphitheater opened in 1968 . Open-air concerts are held there regularly. It is adjacent to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial .

In November 2005, the VoIP provider Vonage Holdings Inc. moved its headquarters from Edison , New Jersey, to Holmdel in the former building of Prudential Property Casualty & Insurance .
