Hazlet is a township in the state of New Jersey in the United States of America . It is located some 50 km south-west of New York City in the northern part of the New York metropolitan area belonging Monmouth County . Hazlet has about 21,000 inhabitants on an area of 14.7 km².

Hazlet is located south of Raritan Bay , a bay in the Atlantic Ocean with the New York borough of Staten Island on the north bank . However, the municipality does not extend directly to the sea. The Garden State Parkway runs through Hazlet . In addition, the place has a train station on the North Jersey Coast Line , from where there are regular train connections to New York, among others.
history
The township was founded on February 25, 1848 as Raritan Township . Previously, the area belonged to the east neighboring Middletown Township . On November 28, 1967, it was renamed Hazlet as a result of a referendum in honor of the entrepreneur John Hazlett .
In 1940 the community still had fewer than 2,000 inhabitants, in 1950 there were just under 3,000, in 1960 more than 15,000 and since the 1970s Hazlet has a population of over 20,000.
