You Me at Six (also YMAS, YM @ 6 or youmeatsix ) is an English pop / rock and pop-punk band that was founded in Weybridge ( Surrey ) in 2004.

Band history

Early phase (2004-2008)

The band You Me at Six was formed in Weybridge . In the period from 2005 to 2007 the group had several small concerts that were spread across the UK. In the early years of You Me at Six , the pieces of music were often dominated by Screams , for example on the first EP We Know What It's Like to Be Alone .

Another EP was released in 2007, but it has no name. From 2007 the band had bigger concerts, the record label Slam Dunk signed them and Craig Jennings of Raw Power Management became their manager.

Take Off Your Colors (2008-2010)

In 2008 the band released their first studio album, Take Off Your Colors . The album made it to number 25 on the British album charts. A tour for this album took place from October 15 to November 4, 2008. In 2007 the band joined the Kerrang! Awards as "Newcomer Band of the Year" and in 2008 nominated as "Band of the Year".

The band had their first tour as headliners in 2009 from March 6th to 13th, 2009 with the 7: 7: 7 tour . In May 2009, the fifth single Finders Keepers was released. In addition, the band played on the Vans Warped Tour 2009 from August 1 to 23, 2009 and was allowed to appear as opening act for the group Paramore in Cologne on December 6, 2009 , in Berlin on December 4 and in Hamburg on December 3 . They also performed at the Rock am Ring Festival in 2009 .

Hold Me Down (2010-2011)

A year after the release of their debut album, the English group are back with their second album Hold Me Down . On June 17, 2011, they were one of the first bands to perform at the Hurricane Festival . In 2010, You Me at Six lost to Bullet for My Valentine at the Kerrang Awards for Best British Band , but won the award for Best Single of the Year with Liquid Confidence .

Sinners Never Sleep (2011-2013)

In October 2011 the band released their third album on iTunes and in the form of a deluxe edition on CD (contains documentation Bite My Tongue ). The album reached number 3 on the charts.

The album shows many references to old albums, for example in Time Is Money , with Parkway Drives singer Winston McCall as a guest, the album Hold Me Down is sung about "We've grown a lot since hold me down" and in Crash Always Attract is briefly discussed: "I've said this all before, but opposites attract." Loverboy was the first single. The band's documentary is named after the song Bite My Tongue (featuring Oliver Sykes from Bring Me the Horizon ). In 2011 and 2012 the band finally won the Kerrang Award for Best British Band. In 2012 the group was also nominated in five categories.

In 2013 You Me at Six won the award for the best concert of the year. Her concert at Wembley Stadium in 2012 received an award .

In November 2013 the band supported 30 Seconds to Mars on their Love Lust Faith and Dreams tour in Germany, Switzerland and England.

In addition, the single Lived a Lie was part of the video game "FIFA 14" in the same year .

Cavalier Youth (since 2013)

In January 2014 the band released their fourth studio album. It immediately made it to number 1 on the official album charts in the UK . After You Me At Six had played several appearances in major German cities as the opening act for the music group 30 Seconds to Mars , the band came back to Germany in March 2014 as headliner for some concerts and played there mainly in clubs (e.g. STROM Linienclub in Munich) .

Music genre

You Me at Six plays rocky - poppy emocore with some screamo elements, which according to Laut.de is characterized above all by a “powerful drum kit” and “hard guitar walls”. The group's music has softened over the years and is now more oriented towards hard rock . Fall Out Boy is mentioned as a comparative figure.
