Paramore is an alternative rock - band from Franklin , Tennessee . Her debut album, All We Know Is Falling , was released on July 26, 2005 in the United States. Paramore was the maiden name of the mother of a former bass player in the band. Because the singer Hayley Williams and the other band members liked this name , they named the band after it. It was n't until later that the band noticed that the name Paramore is also a homophone of the outdated English word “Paramour” (dt .: beloved ). The band is under contract with the label Fueled by Ramen .

Band history

2002–2004: Foundation and record deal

Hayley Williams on the Honda Civic Tour in July 2010

In 2002, at the age of 13, Hayley Williams moved from her hometown of Meridian , Mississippi to Franklin, Tennessee, where she attended a private school, where she also met brothers Josh and Zac Farro . Shortly after moving to the new town, Williams also began taking singing lessons from Brett Manning . Before Paramore was founded, Williams and the band's future bassist, Jeremy Davis , played in a funk band called The Factory , which mostly played cover songs. In 2004, Paramore was officially founded by Hayley Williams (vocals), Josh Farro (guitar), Zac Farro (drums) and Jeremy Davis (bass). The Farro brothers and Davis had previously made music together, but at the time they had not yet found a member who could take over the vocal part. A little later, Williams' neighbor Jason Bynum joined the newly founded music group as a rhythm guitarist. According to Williams, the band's name comes from the maiden name of the mother of one of their former bassists, which they liked. It wasn't until a year later that they found out that the band name is a homophone of the English-French term “paramour” (par amour), which means lover or lover .

The group got their record deal through singer Williams, who was signed as a solo artist by Atlantic Records in 2003. Williams himself was from Kent Marcus and Jim Zumwalt , both lawyers of managers Dave Steunebrink and Richard Williams , the were A & R of Atlantic Records , Tom Storms presented. Steunebrink and Richard Williams originally discovered Hayley Williams and had already signed a production contract with her, which was later bought by Atlantic Records to turn Williams into a pop singer. However, according to Steve Robertson, the band's A&R at Atlantic , Williams resisted the plan because she preferred to do alternative rock music with a band behind her. The label's chairwoman Julie Greenwald finally decided to grant Williams' wish. The management of the group consisted of Dave Steunebrink, Jeff Hanson and his assistant Mark Mercado .

Originally, the band was supposed to publish their music on the Atlantic Records label, but the label's marketing department decided that a smaller record label would be better for the group's image. Eventually, one of Atlantic Records ' sub- labels , Fueled by Ramen , was selected to release Paramore's music. In April 2005, the entire band signed a recording deal with Atlantic Records and Fueled by Ramen after the latter's CEO John Janick watched the group perform a few times.

2005–2006: Debut album All We Know Is Falling

Josh Farro on the 2007 Warped Tour at the Tweeter Center at the Waterfront in Camden on August 3, 2007.

After a few live performances that the band played to gain popularity, they traveled to Orlando to record their debut album. Shortly after arriving in town, bassist Jeremy Davis left the group for personal reasons. The remaining members continued work on the debut album and wrote the song All We Know about Davis' exit. The recordings for the album took around three weeks. Before the band finally started touring, they took John Hembree to the band, replaced what Davis on bass. In 2005 the band played on the Warped Tour, among others . Five months after leaving the band, Jeremy Davis finally returned at the request of the other band members and replaced his successor John Hembree. On July 26, 2005 in the US, the band's debut album, released All We Know Is Falling . This could not place in the official Billboard 200 charts, but reached number 30 on the Heatseekers charts . The songs Pressure (June 31, 2005), Emergency (October 21, 2006) and All We Know (December 16, 2006) were released as singles, but all of them missed a chart position. After their debut album was released in the UK on April 24th , it entered the charts there and reached number 51, but only after their 2009 album Brand New Eyes topped the charts . In July 2006 it was also announced that the previous rhythm guitarist Jason Bynum had been replaced by Hunter Lamb . After the band had played at many festivals in 2006 ( Warped Tour ), Hunter Lamb left the group again in early 2007 to get married. The band then continued their career as a quartet.

2007–2008: Second studio album Riot! and breakthrough with "Twilight"

Bass player Jeremy Davis during the 2007 Warped Tour

After rhythm guitarist Lamb left the band in early 2007, the group recorded their second album from January to March of that year. During the production, lead guitarist Josh Farro took over both guitar parts. In addition, Farro said in an interview in 2007 that bassist Davis had been temporarily thrown from the band because he had shown a lack of work ethic. Davis is still listed as bassist in the album's booklet. After finishing the recordings for the successor to All We Know Is Falling , Taylor York replaced Hunter Lamb as rhythm guitarist. York had already been part of the band before the official formation. On June 12, 2007 the band released their second studio album under the name Riot! released. It reached 15th place in the USA and lasted there for a total of 78 weeks. The band was also able to place itself in the charts for the first time in large parts of Europe. After the album was released in Great Britain on June 11th, it reached number 24. In Germany, where the CD was only released on February 29, 2008, it rose to number 63 in the charts. Four songs were released as singles, the first of which, Misery Business , on June 21, 2007. On September 10, the second single, Hallelujah, was released . After the band returned to the Warped Tour in 2007 , they released their third release from the album, Crushcrushcrush, on November 26th . At the 2008 Grammy Awards held on February 10, 2008 , the group was also nominated for a Grammy in the Best New Artist category, but lost to British soul singer Amy Winehouse . At the beginning of February 2008 the band began a European tour, which they broke off on February 21st to clarify personal problems within the group. There had already been rumors of the band's breakup when guitarist Josh Farro made negative comments in an interview about the media presence of singer Hayley Williams, who was often the focus of coverage of the band. On May 5, 2008, the last single on the album, That's What You Get, was released . Since May the band toured Europe again and started their The Final Riot! -Trip. On November 16, the song Decode was released , which was part of the soundtrack for the film Twilight - Biss zum Dawn . The song, like the soundtrack, became extremely successful and made the band famous outside of the United States. On the soundtrack album of the film, which was treated as a phenomenon in the United States and sparked unexpected popularity, there is a second Paramore song besides Decode , I Caught Myself . On November 24th, the group's second live album was finally released. The Final Riot! made it to 88th place in the USA.

2009–2010: Third studio album Brand New Eyes and tours

Taylor York during the 2007 Warped Tour

At the beginning of 2009, the band completed their third studio album. On July 7, 2009, the first single, Ignorance was finally released. This reached number 14 in the UK, making it the band's most successful song there. Following the release of their third album Brand New Eyes on September 25, 2009, this rose in Germany at # 7 on the charts. In Great Britain and the USA, where the CD was released a few days later, the album reached number one and two respectively. Brand New Eyes was the final breakthrough for the band. On November 23, the group released another song, Brick by Boring Brick . She had previously started her Brand New Eyes World Tour on September 29, 2009 , which comprised a total of 165 shows and did not end until September 7, 2011. After singer Williams failed her voice during the first concert, some shows were postponed so that the tour continued on October 10th. The singer had been diagnosed with laryngitis . In February the single The Only Exception was released , which at number 24 is the band's most successful in the USA to date.

The year 2010 began the group with the continuation of their world tour. Guitarist Josh Farro was absent from 16 shows that took place in Asia and Oceania from February 10 to March 9, 2010, as he was busy planning his upcoming wedding. During this period he was replaced by Justin York , the brother of rhythm guitarist Taylor York . When another part of their tour started on April 23, 2010, the band performed again in their usual formation. In June and July of that year they played a few shows in Europe, including Germany. From July 23 to September 19, 2010, they headlined the Honda Civic Tour . After the band finally played eight shows in Oceania and Asia in October, their tour of Great Britain and Ireland began on November 6th, which they concluded on November 20th after ten concerts. Afterwards they were part of the jingle ball tour, which is very well known in the USA and which is organized by American radio stations and always takes place before Christmas.

Josh and Zac Farro left the band

On December 10, 2010, a message was posted on the official website from Williams, York and Davis that the Farro brothers had left the band. The entry also said that Josh and Zac had already let the rest of the members know a few months ago that they would be leaving the group after the show in Orlando. In addition, the guitarist and drummer hadn't given the impression lately that they really wanted to be part of the band, which is why neither of them would have been shocked about their decision. Williams, York and Davis also let fans know that they weren't even thinking about breaking up the entire band for good. In addition, the remaining shows of their tour would take place as planned. A little later Josh Farro reacted to the news of his former bandmates. Its version was different from the previous announcement. According to Farro, the band is just a manufactured product of a major label , and front woman Williams is manipulated by her management. From the start, the singer was the only one who had a contract with the Atlantic Records label , and the rest of the members were only collaborators in making their dream come true . On December 30, 2010 under the name The Last Word: Paramore an interview with the remaining members recorded again in which these commented on the statements FARROS. In the interview, which aired on January 7, 2011, they let it be known that Williams was actually the only one with a recording deal at the beginning of her career. However, they also said that they considered these things to be irrelevant and had never made a secret of them.

2011: Fourth studio album Paramore and Parahoy!

After the band had announced in December that they would take a break after the South America and Caribbean concerts of their Brand New Eyes World Tour to write songs for their upcoming fourth studio album, they confirmed this again in January. The departure of the two founding members Josh and Zac Farro did not change anything in this plan. From February 16, 2011 to March 6 of the same year, the band finally played eleven shows in South America and the Caribbean, before recording a few songs in the studio that they wanted to release over the summer. On March 21, 2011, singer Williams announced that the band was in the studio with producer Rob Cavallo to record some new songs. On June 7, 2011, the band's first song without the Farro brothers was released: Monster was part of the soundtrack for the third Transformers film . On June 9, it was announced that the group had started writing songs for their fourth album. These were added at the end of the year. The new album should be released in early 2012. From July to September, the band completed their world tour and then announced a so-called Singles Club . The Singles Club included three songs that were released over the next three months: Renegade (October 11, 2011), Hello Cold World (November 7, 2011) and In the Mourning (December 5, 2011). On December 14th, the Singles Club EP was released , which, in addition to the three songs mentioned, also contained the song Monster from the Transformers soundtrack. On December 6th, the band announced that their fourth studio album, "Paramore", will be released on April 9th, 2013. One day later, Warner Music Germany confirmed that it would hit the market in Germany four days earlier, on April 5th. On January 22, 2013 Paramore released the first single Now from their fourth studio album.

In addition, the band announced that they would be giving a multi-day tour on a cruise ship ( Norwegian Pearl ) together with bands like Tegan and Sara and New Found Glory . The tour called Parahoy! , took place at the beginning of March 2014. In addition, in early 2014 the band gave a. a. announced via Twitter to give a North American tour called Monumentour with Fall Out Boy , which took place from June to August 2014.

At the 57th annual Grammy Awards ceremony on February 8, 2015, the song Ain't It Fun, written by Hayley Williams and Taylor York, was named the best rock song of the year.

On December 14, 2015, bassist Jeremy Davis left the band for the second time. In March 2016, he got caught up in a lawsuit with Paramore over the benefits of co-owning the band with Hayley Williams. However, details are not known.

From March 5th to 9th, 2016 the second Parahoy! -Tour ( Parahoy !: The Second Voyage ) took place on a cruise ship, this time to Mexico. The band only took part as a duo, but was supported by an extensive lineup such as New Found Glory or CHVRCHES .

2017: Fifth studio album After Laughter , return of Zac Farro and European tour

In summer 2016 the band u. a. on their Instagram account photos that they show during recordings in the studio. On June 11, 2016, Paramore also uploaded a photo to Instagram showing former drummer Zac Farro . Via further indirect hints, photos and the merchandise "I'm Back" the band announced that Farro would support the band again and was an official member again.

On April 19, 2017, the first single Hard Times was released. At the same time the album After Laughter was announced. On May 3, 2017, the second single Told You So was released. The album was finally released on May 12, 2017.

From June 15, 2017 the band will go on their "Tour One" through Europe. It is also u. a. perform in Cologne, Berlin and Hamburg.
