Technical details

  • Paint with a total weight of around 220 tons was applied to the entire ship
  • Meyer Werft laid around 2,000 kilometers of cable on the ship
  • Around 200 kilometers of pipelines on the ship ensure optimal handling of laundry, fresh water and waste water
  • It is the largest Panamax- size ship ever built
  • There are still three sister ships : the Norwegian Jewel , the Norwegian Jade and the Norwegian Gem .

Trivia

  • On January 10, 2006 at 12:12 am, the tug Ems Tug , which was towing Emsponton 7 , collided with the Tor Dania cargo ferry in the Elbe estuary from the Kiel Canal . The tug lost the pontoon, which created a twelve-meter-long hole in the outer wall of Tor Dania . In the process, the pontoon lost a 32-meter-long and 70-tonne section for the Norwegian Pearl , which was built on behalf of Meyer Werft near Aluship in Gdansk .
  • In the run-up to the transfer of the ship across the Ems , originally scheduled on November 4, 2006 , the 380 kV Ems overhead line crossing at Weener was shut down. The disconnection of the line put too much strain on the north-west German power grid and thus triggered a power failure in large parts of Western Europe, as a result of which up to 12 million people were without electricity for about half an hour. The ship could not leave Papenburg that day.
  • On April 14, 2010, this cruise ship passed the Panama Canal . At $ 375,000, this was the highest canal fee ever. The price is determined by the weight and size of a ship and averages $ 52,000.
