The Norwegian Joy ( 挪威喜悅號郵輪 ) is a cruise ship of the Breakaway -Plus class , which for the shipping company Norwegian Cruise Line at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg was built. It started cruise operations in mid-2017.

history

On October 17, 2012 Norwegian Cruise Line ordered the Norwegian Escape and agreed an option on the Norwegian Joy , which was originally to be called Norwegian Bliss . This ship was ordered in July 2013. Construction of the ship began on September 16, 2015.

On October 12, 2015, Norwegian Cruise Line announced that it would have the ship built specifically for the Chinese cruise market. On March 30, 2016 it was announced that the ship would not be launched as Norwegian Bliss , but as Norwegian Joy or 挪威 喜悅 號 郵輪 and that Shanghai and Tianjin (Beijing) had been chosen as base ports .

The engine room section was built at the Neptun shipyard in Rostock and transferred to Papenburg in March 2016. The keel laying ceremony took place on April 5, 2016. On September 28 and October 8, 2016, a fire broke out on the ship at the shipyard.

As part of Meyer Werft's construction strategy , a first section was undocked on June 4, 2016. Another section was undocked on August 19, 2016 to allow the Genting Dream to undock . Both sections were then re-docked. On March 4, 2017, the ship was undocked. The ship was on 26./27. March 2017 via the Ems to Eemshaven and delivered to the shipping company on April 27, 2017. The ship was christened on June 27, 2017 in Shanghai by Wang Leehom .

commitment

The Norwegian Joy was used by the commissioning all year for Chinese passengers from Shanghai and Tianjin and drove exclusively Japanese ports on.

The ship left the Chinese cruise market in 2019 and was rebuilt at Sembawang in Singapore in March 2019 . Since April 2019 she has been in service in Alaska together with the sister ship Norwegian Bliss .
