The Norwegian Star is a cruise ship of the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), which was completed in 2001 at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg.

history

Originally, the order to build the ship came from the Star Cruises shipping company from Singapore . The ship should get going as the superstar Libra . After NCL took over in 2000, it was decided that a ship of this size would fit better into the NCL concept. Therefore, the ship was built as the Norwegian Star for Norwegian Cruise Line. The maiden voyage began on November 19, 2001. On October 2, 2001, the ship was transferred across the Ems. On October 31, 2001, it was included in the so-called freestyle cruising fleet of Norwegian Cruise Line.

Areas of application

In winter, Norwegian Star sails from Los Angeles and Miami to Central America and through the Panama Canal. In summer, the ship sails from Venice in the Adriatic and Aegean Sea.

Trivia

On September 14, 2012, the Norwegian Star collided with the Explorer of the Seas in the port of Bermuda after the Norwegian Star's mooring lines broke in strong winds. The Norwegian Star was slightly damaged. Both ships were then able to continue their voyage.

Damage to one of the Azipods was discovered on December 11, 2016 while in Singapore . Because of this, the ship could not travel at full speed and some trips had to be rerouted. As a result, an Azipod between Australia and New Zealand failed in February 2017 .

The Norwegian Star is a sister ship of the Norwegian Dawn and belongs to the Dawn class .
